HAMDEN, Conn. — The No. 14 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey program hosts Hamden's biggest weekend of the year in hockey, bringing in local foe Yale as well as Brown for its final home regular season weekend of the 2024-25 season.
The Bobcats are looking to sweep both series with wins this weekend and can also clinch the ECAC's regular season championship and their fifth consecutive Cleary Cup with a pair of wins and a Cornell victory over Clarkson on Friday night.
POSTSEASON PROJECTING
- Quinnipiac enters the weekend with a chance at its fifth straight ECAC regular season championship and can take the trophy with a pair of wins and a Cornell regulation victory over Clarkson on Friday night.
- They will also take the trophy with nine points over its final three contests, with Clarkson's maximum final total at 48 points.
- They also can clinch a bye in the ECAC postseason with three points on the weekend and would ensure a home quarterfinal series at M&T Bank Arena.
SHARING IS CARING
- Sophomore Mason Marcellus is already on a career pace in assists this season, dishing 24 in his first 30 games of the year, two better than his output last season.
- He also sits second in the ECAC and sixth in the country in assists per game and currently is four helpers outside of the top 20 in program history for assists in a single season.
POWERFUL PLAYS
- The Bobcat Power Play has been firing on all cylinders this season, currently converting on a 31.4 percent clip, the best in the nation after a fiery weekend at Union and RPI.
- This would best the Bobcats' previous high of 28.7 percent that they scored on in 2002-03 and a 9.2 percent improvement on the 2023-24 campaign.
- Quinnipiac is coming off a 7-for-12 weekend in which they scored five man-advantage goals on Friday night at Union.
HAT TRICKETTS STRIKES AGAIN
- For the second time this season, grad student Jack Ricketts recorded a hat trick, scoring three goals in the Bobcats' come-from-behind, 5-4, victory over Dartmouth last Friday night in Hanover.
- The Bobcats erased a pair of deficits and took the extra point in overtime against the Big Green, earning a split of the season series and keeping Rand Pecknold's club in first as they head to February.
- Ricketts is the one of four skaters nationally to have multiple hat tricks this season.
AND DOWN THE STRETCH THEY COME
- As the calendar turns to February, a tight ECAC race is underway with the Bobcats leading the way with eight games to go.
- Quinnipiac enters the weekend with a four-point advantage over Clarkson and six-point lead over Union and Colgate as they chase their fifth consecutive Cleary Cup as the league's regular season champion.
- In the national landscape, the Bobcats currently sit No. 14 in the Pairwise, looking for an NCAA Tournament bid for the sixth consecutive season. They are the lone ECAC team inside the Top 16 and their strongest Pairwise opponent left on the schedule is Clarkson, who currently sit at No. 21.
ALL NATURAL
- A feat that had not been achieved by a Bobcat since the 2014-15 season, Quinnipiac has recorded a pair of natural hat tricks this season, thanks to Jack Ricketts and Andon Cerbone.
- Ricketts ripped off a four-goal game against Stonehill in which he scored three in a row and then Cerbone followed that up by turning a 3-1 deficit into a 4-3 lead against Colgate en route to a 6-3 victory.
- They are one of five teams in the country to have two hat tricks this season.
