Hot Start Leads Bobcats Past Detroit Mercy in MAAC Semifinals

Bobcats Advance to 2019 MAAC Tournament on Saturday at 10:00 AM (ESPNU)
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Quinnipiac men's lacrosse opened Thursday's MAAC Semifinal contest with nine straight goals and cruised past Detroit Mercy by a final score of 19-10 at Tenney Stadium.
With the win, the Bobcats clinched a spot in the conference title contest for the first time since 2016 and the third time in program history. Quinnipiac's 19 goals set a new MAAC record for single-game goals in a postseason contest.
Senior Mike Fletcher led the way with a career-high seven goals and two assists for nine total points – finishing just one goal and one point shy of the single-game program record.
Fellow senior Foster Cuomo added three goals and four assists for seven points, Jake Tomsik scored five times and added a helper for five points, while Tyler Mackay added three goals and one assist for four points.

HIGHLIGHTS
- The Bobcats scored the game's first nine goals, taking a 9-0 lead with 13:21 left in the second quarter. Mike Fletcher scored three times in that span, while Jake Tomsik, Foster Cuomo and Tyler MacKay all scored twice.
- Quinnipiac scored eight times in the first quarter for just the second time this season. The Bobcats scored eight goals in the first period vs. NJIT on March 2.
- The Bobcats then outscored Detroit Mercy 7-6 in the second half to advance to the MAAC title contest.
- Total shots were 47-36 in favor of Quinnipiac.
- The Bobcats won 10 of 31 face-offs, and went 21-for-25 in clear attempts. Quinnipiac forced the Titans to commit seven failed clear attempts.
- Nick DiMuccio earned his ninth win of the season in front of the cage, making nine total saves.
- Fletcher now has eight multi-goal games in 2019. He recorded his sixth hat trick of the season in the win. The senior has 33 goals and 13 helpers for 46 total points.
- With seven more points in the win, Cuomo has 29 goals and 16 assists on the season.
- Tomsik's five goals raised his total to 35 on the season. He now has a team-best 56 points.
- Mackay's hat trick is his third of the season, as the junior raised his season goal total to 19.
- Quinnipiac is 10-2 all-time vs. Detroit Mercy, winning the last three matchups between the programs. The Bobcats are 6-0 away from home vs. the Titans.
- With the win, The Bobcats will play in the 2019 MAAC Tournament title contest on Saturday, May 4 at 10:00 a.m. on ESPNU. Quinnipiac will take on No. 1 Marist in the championship game.
