Softball Earns Third Sweep in Five Days, Takes Down Bulldogs

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac Bobcats earned its third straight sweep after defeating the Yale Bulldogs, 9-0 (6 innings) and 8-3 on Wednesday afternoon. The Bulldogs came into the series after winning three straight against Cornell, but the Bobcats swept the doubleheader and won its fifth and sixth games in a row.
Quinnipiac recorded a season-high 12 hits in the first game against Yale, and the team tied the season-high with nine RBIs.
Game 1
Second Inning - With freshmen Bridget Nasir and Lo Yarnall on base in scoring position, freshman Hannad Davis hit a single up the middle to send Nasir home. In the next at-bat, sophomore Kayla Jensen hit a double to center field, allowing Yarnall and Davis to score. Junior Rachel Marchuk made it to second base after hitting a single and advancing on the throw. Senior Rebecca Drake came up to then hit a double to right field, recording two RBIs, to send Jensen and Marchuk home. The Bobcats ended the second inning with a 5-0 lead.
Fourth Inning - Jensen and Marchuk both hit singles to advance to first and second base. Senior Erin Larsen then hit a single of her own, recording two RBIs, to send Jensen and Marchuk in to score. The Bobcats finished the inning leading, 7-0.
Sixth Inning - The Bobcats added two more unanswered runs in the sixth inning with help from Drake and Larsen, who hit a single and double, respectively, and each recorded an RBI.
Highlights
First Inning - Drake continued her solid play with her third hit and second double of the day down the right line. Larsen batted next and hit a single up the middle, and Drake advanced to third. On the next play, Drake stole home to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead
Fourth Inning- The Bobcats made a decisive comeback in the fourth inning starting with a three-RBI double from junior Megan Dyson. At second, Dyson was able to make it home after a double from Jensen. Quinnipiac ended the inning lead the Bulldogs, 5-3.
The Bobcats would add three more runs to win the second game, 8-3, defeating the Bulldogs in two games by a combined score of 17-3.
