Bobcats Drop Matches to Sacred Heart, at Yale, Despite Strong Hitting Performances
HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac volleyball team was swept in a Saturday doubleheader to cap off the Battle of Connecticut, falling 3-1 to Sacred Heart on Burt Kahn Court before traveling down to Yale and dropping the nightcap, 3-0, to the Bulldogs.
Morgan Sherwin (Coplay, Pennsylvania) wrapped up the tournament with 35 kills, including 21 in Saturday's doubleheader while Kat Miller recorded a pair of double-doubles on the weekend.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST SET (Sacred Heart 25, Quinnipiac 20)
- Sacred Heart jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the opening set before the Bobcats battled back to an 8-7 deficit from a Kat Miller (Collegeville, Pennsylvania) kill and service ace as well as a Kaleigh Oates (Downingtown, Pennsylvania) kill.
- The Bobcats took a 15-13 lead before the Pioneers won four straight points to take a 17-15 lead and force a Quinnipiac timeout.
- After trading points, the Pioneers won five of the final six points to win the first set
SECOND SET (Sacred Heart 25, Quinnipiac 23)
- Quinnipiac battled back in a tightly contested second set
- After trading the first eight points of the set, Sacred Heart won seven of 10 points before a Quinnipiac timeout with the Pioneers leading 10-6
- The Bobcats stormed back to tie the match, highlighted by two Sherwin kills
- Quinnipiac tallied three straight points before both teams trading points with the Bobcats taking a 20-19 lead.
- Miller recorded a kill and Sacred Heart had an attack error before the Pioneers called a timeout
- Coming out of the timeout, Sacred Heart won two straight points to take the set.
THIRD SET (Quinnipiac 25, Sacred Heart 19)
- Lauren Miller (Collegeville, Pennsylvania) started off the third set with a service and the Bobcats took a 4-2 lead but Sacred Heart answered with three straight points
- Following the Pioneers' 8-6 lead, the Bobcats won six straight points to take a 12-8 lead thanks to three Kat Miller aces
- After the lead extended to five, Sacred Heart won three points to pull back within two.
- Quinnipiac won eight of the final 12 points to clinch the set victory.
FOURTH SET (Sacred Heart 25, Quinnipiac 16)
- Quinnipiac jumped out to a 6-4 lead early in the third set before five straight Sacred Heart points forced a Bobcat timeout
- The Pioneers extended their lead to five points with four Bobcats attack errors
- After two Quinnipiac points, Sacred Heart won seven of eight points to take a 21-12 lead
- The Bobcats and Pioneers traded points the rest of the way before Sacred Heart's win
NOTES
- One day after recording 14 kills, Sherwin powered home 13 kills against the Pioneers
- Baker's season-best 11 kills, coupled with a .231 hitting percentage and three blocks, provided her best performance of the season
- Rodriguez picked up 13 digs and had a kill offensively
- Miller recorded an impressive five service aces in the losing effort
- The Bobcats recorded 41 kills as a team

FIRST SET (Yale 25, Quinnipiac 14)
- The first set started off with the Bobcats and Bulldogs trading the first six points with the team's tied 3-3
- Yale went on a roll to take control of the set, recording 10 of the next 11 points to take a 13-4 lead
- Following a kill and a service ace from Kat Miller, Yale won eight of the next 11 points to take a 21-10 lead.
- Miller recorded three straight kills to pull the Bobcats back within nine before Yale took the set
SECOND SET (Yale 25, Quinnipiac 20)
- Quinnipiac and Yale were neck-and-neck throughout much of the second set.
- After back-to-back kills from Gabby Horman (Smithtown, New York), Yale won four straight points before the Bobcats tied it back up 5-5.
- Neither team managed to take a lead of more than two points until Yale's four-point run made it 17-12
- The Bulldogs extended their lead to six at 23-17 before the Bobcats pulled back within four (24-20) but it was not enough
THIRD SET (Yale 25, Quinnipiac 22)
- Once again, the Bobcats and Bulldogs battled throughout the third set with neither team taking more than a three-point lead
- The Bobcats tied up the match 7-7 early after a kill from Sherwin and back-to-back Yale attack errors
- Quinnipiac took three more points to take a 10-8 lead after a kill from Miller and two more Yale errors
- Yale extended its lead to 16-13 but the Bobcats stormed back to tie the match, 17-17, after two kills from Sherwin and one from Oates
- Miller gave the Bobcats a 22-21 lead late in the set before Yale won the final four points to take the victory
NOTES
- Kat Miller had a fantastic third set with five kills and five digs to cap off her third double-double in the first six matches of the season with 10 kills and 13 digs
- Miller also recorded a .400 hitting percentage to lead the Bobcats after 20 total attacks
- Sherwin finished second on the team with eight kills as she wrapped up a spectacular weekend of play in the Battle of Connecticut
- Horman recorded six kills and four blocks (three solo's) in an impressive performance in Saturday night's match
- Maria Pansari (Whitehouse Station, New Jersey) registered a kill and 28 assists
