Bobcats Attack Combines for 38 Kills to Open Hampton Inn-vitational
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Quinnipiac volleyball team was dominant from start-to-finish Friday night as the Bobcats swept the Coppin State Eagles, 3-0, in their opening match of Bryant's Hampton Inn-vitational.
Quinnipiac led a strong offensive attack with 38 kills, paced by Morgan Sherwin (Coplay, Pennsylvania) and Lydia Jones (Glenn Dale, Maryland) recording eight kills each and five players recording at least five kills in the Friday night victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST SET (Quinnipiac 25, Coppin State 13)
- The first set was all Bobcats as they set the tone early with four straight points following the Eagles' match opening kill, forcing an early Coppin State timeout
- Quinnipiac took two of the first three points out of the timeout, including a kill from Alejandra Rodriguez (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico) before the teams mostly traded points with the Eagles pulling back within two points
- The Bobcats took over from that point with several runs to put the set out of reach, starting with two kills from Gabby Horman (Smithtown, New York) and an ace from Lauren Miller (Collegeville, Pennsylvania)
- Another Horman kill plus a Sherwin kill and three Coppin State attack errors increased the Bobcats' lead to eight at 17-9
- After back-to-back points from the Eagles, the Bobcats won five straight points, including two straight kills from Jones, to take a 22-11 lead before ultimately winning the final three points of the set
SECOND SET (Quinnipiac 25, Coppin State 21)
- The second set was a story of runs, starting with Quinnipiac a 3-1 lead from three straight points on kills from Sherwin and Kaleigh Oates (Downingtown, Pennsylvania)
- Coppin State won five straight after that to take a 6-3 lead before Quinnipiac called its first timeout of the match
- Out of the timeout, the Bobcats won four straight points to reclaim the lead, 7-6
- From that point, neither team won more than two straight points, taking the score up to 18-17 with a Coppin State lead.
- The Bobcats put the set out of reach with five straight points, including back-to-back service aces by Kat Miller, to take a 22-18 lead
- Kat Miller and Jones closed out the set with back-to-back kills for the 25-21 win
THIRD SET (Quinnipiac 25, Coppin State 17)
- Two big runs were the storyline for the Bobcats in the final set as the Bobcats set the tone early with five straight points to open the set, with Horman earning three of the points on a kill and two service aces
- Coppin State chipped back within two points before Quinnipiac won four of the next five points to reclaim a five-point lead at 11-6
- Quinnipiac held on to its five-point lead over much of the next part of the set until winning four straight points to extend its lead to eight, highlighted by two more Kat Miller aces as well as a kill to take a 22-14 lead
- The Bobcats and Eagles traded points over the final six rallies with the Bobcats closing out their victory on a Coppin State service error
NOTES
- Quinnipiac recorded a .293 hitting percentage as a team today, their highest team hitting percentage of the season while the 38 kills were the third-most this season and 14 attack errors were the second fewest
- The Bobcats also had a season-high nine service aces, led by Kat Miller's four
- Jones returned to the Bobcats lineup with a season-high eight kills with an impressive .462 hitting percentage
- Sherwin also netted eight kills for the Bobcats to join Jones in pacing the attack
- Kat Miller continued her impressive performance this season with seven kills, four service aces, two digs and two blocks
- With four aces, Miller has 10 over her past three matches and a total of 15 on the season to keep her within the Top-50 in the nation
- Horman and Baker each had five kills for the Bobcats, with Horman recording a 1.000 hitting percentage to go with four blocks while Baker was at .500 for the Bobcats
- Once again, Rodriguez recorded a team-high 10 digs, her fourth match this season with double-digit digs
- Pansari recorded her third 30-assist game this season

- Quinnipiac has a pair of matches set for Saturday as the Bobcats open up the day against the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders at 10 a.m. before facing the host Bryant Bulldogs in the evening at 5 p.m. Both matches will be played in the Chace Athletic Center.
