HAMDEN, Conn. – After one week of competition, the Quinnipiac volleyball team is eager to return to its home court to kick off the 2018 home slate by hosting three matches in the Battle of Connecticut before wrapping up the weekend at Yale Saturday night.
Opening Weekend
The Bobcats opened the season in West Point, New York, for the Army Invitational with the Bobcats falling in all three matches. Quinnipiac's best performance came against the Army West Point Black Knights, where despite a 3-1 loss the Bobcats hung tight in every set. The Bobcats followed up the weekend with a 3-0 loss at UConn in a mid-week battle on Tuesday.
Scouting CCSU
The Blue Devils sport a 1-4 record heading into their second weekend of the season with their lone win come against the Manhattan Jaspers, a familiar foe for the Bobcats. CCSU swept Manhattan for that win, 3-0, to close out the Jack Kaiser Volleyball Classic at St. John's. The Blue Devils are led offensively by Madelyn Kaprelyan and Emma Henderson who have 44 and 43 kills, respectively. Erin McDermott has 98 assists in the setter role, averaging 5.44 assists per set. On the defensively side, Ashlyn Eisenga has been spectacular averaging 4.08 digs per set, a total of 49, while Henderson leads the team with 60 digs and has 3.33 digs per set.
Scouting Sacred Heart
The Pioneers have a winning record heading into the Battle of Connecticut as they are 2-1 after the first three matches. Sacred Heart took home wins vs. Providence and Fairfield to open the season with their lone loss coming at Boston College. Liisel Nelis has been spectacular for the Pioneers, averaging 3.45 kills per set as she tallied 38 in her first three matches. Sarah Ciszek has distributed the ball well, posting 8.36 assists per set while Emma Smallcomb has been spectacular on defense with 41 digs and 3.73 digs per set.
Scouting Yale
The Bulldogs open competition this weekend after going 16-8 and 10-4 in the Ivy League in 2017, clinching a share of the Ivy League Title before falling to Princeton with the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament on the line. Yale returns its top three offensive weapons as Kelley Wirth, Kathryn Attar and Triston Kott all averaged 2.46 kills per set or better. The Bulldogs also return libero Kate Swanson who paced the Bulldogs with 376 digs, an average of 4.64 per set.
Millin' About
Kat Miller (Collegeville, Pennsylvania) has been one of the Bobcats best players throughout the first four matches of the season as she leads the team in kills (33), kills per set (2.54), service aces (5), digs (34), and digs per set (2.62) as well as being second on the team with 12 blocks. Miller's best match of the season came against Army where she had 16 kills and 14 digs for her first double-double of the 2018 season.

Sherwin a Sure Thing
Morgan Sherwin has also bolstered the Bobcats front line through the first four matches as she has powered home 25 kills in the first four matches, good for second on the team.
