Top Storylines
- Quinnipiac was last in action when it traveled to the Washington State Invitational, suffering a narrow 3-2 loss to Incarnate Word and 3-0 defeats to Charleston, Washington State and Baylor.
- The Bobcats had some bright moments against Washington State and Baylor, leading the Cougars 19-18 in the second set before falling 25-20 and dropping a 26-24 third set to Baylor in which they led the entire set until Baylor took its first lead at 25-24. Washington State (No. 28) and Baylor (No. 29) both came into the tournament ranked just outside the national top 25.
- Sophomore outside hitter Natalie Alechko (Old Tappan, N.J.) was named to the Cougar Challenge All-Tournament team after tallying 40 kills in four matches. She had eight kills in 13 attempts (with only one error) in the dramatic third set against Baylor to nearly help the Bobcats extend the match to a fourth set. Alechko earlier tied her career high with 18 kills against Bryant.
- Sophomore Lauren Miller (Collegeville, Pa.) saw her first career action at libero in the final three matches of the Cougar Challenge and compiled 19 digs.
- Quinnipiac defeated FDU last season at home 3-1 behind a career-high 16 kills from current senior Elizabeth Kloos (Munster, Ind.) in 27 attempts. FDU is 2-5 this season with both wins coming over MAAC teams (Manhattan, Saint Peter's).
- Junior right side hitter Kat Miller (Collegeville, Pa.) had four double-doubles in the first five matches this season, with highs of 14 kills against Incarnate Word and 17 digs against Bryant. Miller currently leads the team with 75 digs, and ranks third with 70 kills behind Alechko (92) and junior outside hitter Jen Coffey (Merrimack, N.H. - 72).
- Freshman middle hitter Gabby Horman (Smithtown, N.Y.) had a solid opening weekend at the Fort Wayne Invitational, leading the Bobcats in blocks with 12 and hitting over .200 (.222) in her first three matches.
- Quinnipiac's 21 wins in 2016 represented an 18-win improvement from the prior season, when it only won three, the biggest single-season turnaround in the nation last year. Notre Dame was second with a 15-game improvement.
- Quinnipiac was picked to finish second in the MAAC preseason poll after ending last year as the third-place finisher in the regular season and the runner-up in the conference tournament. It is the highest the Bobcats have ever been picked in one of their preseason polls at the Division I level.
- Senior middle hitter Elizabeth Kloos (Munster, Ind.) was chosen to the Preseason All-MAAC team in a vote of the league's coaches after hitting .301 as a junior last year, ranking sixth in the conference.
- Junior outside hitter Jen Coffey (Merrimack, N.H.) was a first-team All-MAAC selection last year after leading the Bobcats with 404 kills, tying her for third place on Quinnipiac's single-season Division I list (since 1998). She also tied for eighth in school history in all divisions.
- Sophomore setter Maria Pansari (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) had 1,358 assists as a freshman last year, setting the Quinnipiac school record for all divisions. No Bobcat setter had ever reached 1,000 assists at the Division I level previously.
- Pansari, Alechko and libero Alejandra Rodriguez (Toa Alta, P.R.) were all named to the MAAC All-Rookie team last year.
- Four new freshmen join the Bobcats this season, outside hitter/defensive specialist Haley Anderson (St. James, N.Y.), outside hitter Michelle Cuervo (Miami, Fla.), middle hitter Gabby Horman (Smithtown, N.Y.) and setter Morgan Sherwin (Coplay, Pa.).
- Anderson and Horman played at rival high schools on Long Island, with Anderson attending Smithtown East and Horman attending Smithtown West. Senior Jamie Termotto (Smithtown, N.Y.) also played for Smithtown West, while all three played club volleyball with the Island Volleyball Academy.
- Three other Quinnipiac teammates also played together before joining the Bobcats. Kat Miller, younger sister Lauren Miller (Collegeville, Pa.), who is entering her sophomore season, and fellow sophomore Kaleigh Oates (Downington, Pa.) all played at Villa Maria Academy in Pennsylvania.
- After returning from Towson, Quinnipiac begins MAAC play next weekend with a road trip to Manhattan and Iona, ending a stretch of 15 straight matches away from home to start the season. The Bobcats will host their home opener on Saturday, Sept. 23 against Saint Peters.
