HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac baseball team returns to MAAC play as they face the Fairfield Stags in a three-game series in Fairfield. The matchup will be between two of the top three teams in the MAAC standings, with Quinnipiac sitting three games behind the top-seeded Stags.
HISTORY VS. FAIRFIELD
- Friday's matchup will be the 39th time the two programs are facing off in their Division I history.
- The Fairfield Stags lead the series 27-11 and are 17-4 on their home field.
- Quinnipiac got the best of Fairfield the last time the two teams faced off (May 18, 2024). The Bobcats put up four runs in the ninth inning to stun Fairfield and come away with the win. CJ Willis recorded the game-winning hit with a two-run double down the left-field line.
- Fairfield will enter the weekend series with a 31-9 overall record and a 16-2 record in MAAC play.
- The Stags have won their last five contests, including a series sweep over Merrimack and midweek wins over Fordham and FDU.
- Fairfield has not lost a MAAC series all season and has only dropped one weekend series this year (vs Richmond, Feb. 23-24).
- The Stags are currently the number one seed in the MAAC, holding a three-game lead over the second-place Rider Broncs.
- Dean Ferrara has started all 40 games for the Stags and leads the team with a .408 batting average. Ferrara has driven in 43 runs and has hit six home runs for the Stags. The senior infielder leads the MAAC in batting average and is ranked 25th in Division I.
- Ben Alekson has started ten games on the mound for the Stags and leads the team with a 2.59 ERA. Alekson has a 6-1 record on the bump and has recorded 52 strikeouts in 59.0 innings pitched.
- The Bobcats fell to the Boston College Eagles in a midweek contest, 15-2, on Tuesday afternoon in Brighton, MA.
- Boston College scored eight runs in the third inning to power them past the Bobcats.
- CJ Willis and Christian Smith both went 2-for-3 at the dish and recorded an RBI.
- 22 – Quinnipiac steals the 21st most bases in the NCAA with 94, good for third in the MAAC.
- 34 – As a team, the Bobcats have the 38th-best batting average in Division I (.308) and are one of two teams in the MAAC with a batting average of .300 or higher.
- 42 – The Bobcats are 42nd in the NCAA with 415 total hits this season, which is tied for the MAAC lead with Fairfield.
- 59 – QU also ranks 59th in the NCAA with 316 total runs scored, which is second in the conference.
- 62 – Quinnipiac is 62nd in Division I with an on-base percentage of .410, which is good for third in the MAAC.

- The Quinnipiac Baseball team was picked to finish 4th in the MAAC Preseason Poll.
- Outfielder CJ Willis was the lone Bobcat representative on the Preseason All-MAAC team.
- The senior started 49 games last season and had a batting average of .284.
- Willis hit eight home runs, eleven doubles, and three triples while driving in 42 RBIs.
- Willis Drove in a season-high four RBIs in the win against UMass (5/1).
- The Bobcats return 15 players from last year's team, with 12 of those players seeing game action.
- Gabe Wright, Christian Smith, Kyle Garbowski, CJ Willis, Sebastian Mueller, and James Marino will be key returners on the offensive side of the plate.
- Jack Kabel, Ryan Hutchinson, Mike Poncini, Jack Gannon, Matt Alduino, and Andrew Rubayo will look to make an impact when they toe the rubber.
- Matt Alduino and Andrew Rubayo were named to the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Preseason Watchlist.
LOTS OF NEW FACES
- Quinnipiac welcomes 16 new faces to their campus this season.
- The Bobcats used the transfer portal to fill the holes in their lineup, grabbing Sean McCulloch (Susquehanna), Johnny Knox (Nichols College), Alex Irizarry (Maryland), Josh Lajoie (Lipscomb), Ryan O'Connell (St. Bonaventure), Griffin Seibel (Xavier), Cole Constable (Maryland), Luke Zeisloft (Maryland), Jackson Bryan (Trevecca Nazarene), and Nick Balcom (Finger Lakes Community College).
- Quinnipiac also brought in six first years, J.C. Franconere from Sparta, New Jersey, Samuel Wright from Ardmore, Pennsylvania, Austin Ludwig from Schwenksville, Pennsylvania, Ian Nilsen from Easton, Connecticut, Christian Nilsen from Easton, Connecticut, and Matt Park from Bridgewater, New Jersey.
- The Bobcats will open up MAAC play on March 7th as they start a three-game home series against the Iona Gaels.
- Quinnipiac will battle in-state rival Yale on March 19th at Yale (3 PM) and at home against Yale on April 15th (3 PM).
- On April 1st, the Bobcats will travel to Storrs to take on the UConn Huskies in a midweek non-conference matchup.
- Quinnipiac will play their final home series of the season from May 8-12 as the Siena Saints come to Hamden.
- QU will wrap up the regular season at Sacred Heart for a three-game set from May 15-17.
