HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac baseball welcomes their in-state rival, the Yale Bulldogs, to Hamden for a non-conference matchup on Tuesday, April 15th with the first pitch slated for 3 PM. This is the second and final meeting between the two teams this season.
HISTORY VS. YALE
- Tuesday's matchup will be the 19th time the two programs are facing off in their Division-I history.
- The Bulldogs lead the series 11-7 and have won the last two matchups.
- The last time the two teams faced off, the Bobcats fell to Yale by a final score of 8-2 back on March 19th. After Quinnipiac knotted the game up at two in the fifth inning, the Bulldogs scored six unanswered runs to earn the win.
- Yale will enter the midweek matchup with a 20-10 overall record and an 8-4 record in Ivy League play.
- Yale is coming off a weekend series win over Columbia in New Haven. The Bulldogs won the opening game of the series 7-3 before shutting out Columbia 3-0 in the second game of the doubleheader to earn the series win. Columbia avoided the series sweep with a 6-3 win in the series finale on Sunday.
- Yale is currently in second place in the Ivy League and is just two games back of first place (Penn).
- Jake Williams has started 28 games for the Bulldogs and leads the offense with a .317 batting average. Williams has recorded 22 RBIs this season and has scored 19 times.
- The Bobcats completed their second straight MAAC series sweep as they swept the Merrimack Warriors this past weekend.
- The Warriors held a 4-2 lead as they headed to the seventh inning of game one of the series before the Bobcats put up five runs in the inning to come from behind and win the series opener.
- Game two of the series was knotted up at four and they needed extra innings to determine the winner. After a scoreless tenth inning, Alex Irizarry singled home Sam Ametrano in the 11th to earn the series win.
- With the Bobcats looking for another series sweep, the bats came out as they recorded eight runs on 13 hits to sweep the Warriors.
- 18 – Quinnipiac steals the 18th most bases in the NCAA with 84, good for second in the MAAC.
- 38 – The Bobcats are 38th in the NCAA with 369 total hits this season, which leads the MAAC.
- 49 – QU also ranks 49th in the NCAA with 289 total runs scored, leading the MAAC.
- 50 – As a team, the Bobcats have the 50th-best batting average in Division I (.303) and are the only team in the MAAC with a batting average of .300 or more.
- 51 – Christian Smith is 51st in the NCAA with 44 RBIs, which is also the second-most RBIs in the conference.

- The Quinnipiac Baseball team was picked to finish 4th in the MAAC Preseason Poll.
- Outfielder CJ Willis was the lone Bobcat representative on the Preseason All-MAAC team.
- The senior started 49 games last season and had a batting average of .284.
- Willis hit eight home runs, eleven doubles, and three triples while driving in 42 RBIs.
- Willis Drove in a season-high four RBIs in the win against UMass (5/1).
- The Bobcats return 15 players from last year's team, with 12 of those players seeing game action.
- Gabe Wright, Christian Smith, Kyle Garbowski, CJ Willis, Sebastian Mueller, and James Marino will be key returners on the offensive side of the plate.
- Jack Kabel, Ryan Hutchinson, Mike Poncini, Jack Gannon, Matt Alduino, and Andrew Rubayo will look to make an impact when they toe the rubber.
- Matt Alduino and Andrew Rubayo were named to the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Preseason Watchlist.
LOTS OF NEW FACES
- Quinnipiac welcomes 16 new faces to their campus this season.
- The Bobcats used the transfer portal to fill the holes in their lineup, grabbing Sean McCulloch (Susquehanna), Johnny Knox (Nichols College), Alex Irizarry (Maryland), Josh Lajoie (Lipscomb), Ryan O'Connell (St. Bonaventure), Griffin Seibel (Xavier), Cole Constable (Maryland), Luke Zeisloft (Maryland), Jackson Bryan (Trevecca Nazarene), and Nick Balcom (Finger Lakes Community College).
- Quinnipiac also brought in six first years, J.C. Franconere from Sparta, New Jersey, Samuel Wright from Ardmore, Pennsylvania, Austin Ludwig from Schwenksville, Pennsylvania, Ian Nilsen from Easton, Connecticut, Christian Nilsen from Easton, Connecticut, and Matt Park from Bridgewater, New Jersey.
- The Bobcats will open up MAAC play on March 7th as they start a three-game home series against the Iona Gaels.
- Quinnipiac will battle in-state rival Yale on March 19th at Yale (3 PM) and at home against Yale on April 15th (3 PM).
- On April 1st, the Bobcats will travel to Storrs to take on the UConn Huskies in a midweek non-conference matchup.
- Quinnipiac will play their final home series of the season from May 8-12 as the Siena Saints come to Hamden.
- QU will wrap up the regular season at Sacred Heart for a three-game set from May 15-17.
NEXT TIME OUT
- The Bobcats will play a three-game series with the CCSU Blue Devils. Quinnipiac will be on the road for the first two games of the series (April 17-18) before playing the series finale in Hamden (April 19).
