No. 2 Bobcats Head South for Matchup with St. Leo

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac Acrobatics & Tumbling program looks to improve to 3-0 on the year and extend its regular season win streak on Sunday afternoon, when they take on St. Leo in Florida.

- Senior Hallie Fowler was named as the NCATA's Athlete of the Week, the association announced after the first week of meets.
- The Gulf Breeze, Fla., native competed in eight heats and the team routine, highlighted by seven scores of 9.50 or higher, including a meet-high 9.80 in seven-element acro.
- She also helped QU to a 9.75 in the inversion pyramid and a 9.70 in the compulsory toss. In team event, Fowler competed as a base as well as in running tumbling, helping the Bobcats to a score of 92.74.
- The Bobcats earned the No. 2 national ranking from National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association, the organization announced the Friday before competition began.
- Quinnipiac earned one first-place vote and a total of 619 points across the nation's coaches after a 2024 semifinal finish.
- Baylor topped the poll, followed by the Bobcats, Gannon and Oregon rounding out the top four.
- The Bobcats have a eight-meet regular season that began on Feb. 2 against Morgan State, the first of three home meets this season. They won that meet by a
270.565-246.745 scoreline. - Quinnipiac hits the road for the next six weeks starting Saturday, defeating a couple of local foes in Iona and LIU before heading south to take on St. Leo (March 9) and Limestone (March 12).
- Mary Ann Powers' club returns home for a top-four matchup with Oregon for Senior Night on March 23 before hosting AIC on March 28.
- They will close out the regular season in a National Semifinal rematch of 2024, at Gannon on April 5.
- The Bobcats posted a 7-1 overall record in 2023, earning the No. 2 seed in the postseason tournament.
- They went on to the national semifinals, falling to third-seeded Gannon. On Sunday, the team claimed a pair NCATA Individual Event Finals titles.
- Quinnipiac completed the first perfect regular season in program history, knocking off top foes Oregon and Gannon en route to a 6-0 record.
- They earned a spot in their seventh consecutive NCATA Final Four, defeating Frostburg State in the opening round before falling by 1.300 to Gannon in the semifinals.
- Mary Ann Powers is in her 28th season as head coach for Quinnipiac Acrobatics & Tumbling in 2024. Powers has coached at several levels including Pop-Warner, All-Star level 6 squads and at the university level.
- Her greatest career achievement lies in her success with Quinnipiac University, where the team has remained a top-ten nationally ranked team since 2005. Their personal-best finish was fifth place in All-Girl Division I in 2007. In 2009, Powers became one of the founding coaches of the National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association (NCATA). In 2020, Powers' hard work along with her fellow co-founders reached new heights as the sport was adopted as an emerging sport for women by the NCAA.
- Quinnipiac has been competitive nationally in every season since the NCATA's creation. Over the last eight seasons, the Bobcats have been ranked as the No. 3 team in the nation. Powers has led the Bobcats to the NCATA semifinals in ten of the last 13 seasons and has made to two NCATA Championship meet appearances, most recently in the 2018 season.
- Powers was recognized by the NCATA in 2016 as the Coach of the Year and was named the ECAC Coach of the Year in three straight seasons from 2017-19.
