Softball Falls to Iona in MAAC Opener

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac softball team fell in both games of their doubleheader against Iona to open MAAC play on Saturday afternoon.
In game one, the Gaels started the scoring early, taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning and added another in the third. The Bobcats would come roaring back with three runs in the fifth inning, including a Sofia Vega RBI triple. It wouldn't be enough as Iona knocked in one run in the sixth to win 4-3.
In game two, Iona scored early again making it 3-0 after the second and 7-0 after the fourth. QU would get one back in the third as Mary Fogg reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Jaelyn Gonzalez. Iona would go on to add two more runs in the sixth to push their lead to eight, winning in six innings.
