Bobcats Suffer OT Heartbreak in ECAC Semifinals
3/21/2025 11:46:00 PM | Men's Ice Hockey
HAMDEN, Conn. — The Quinnipiac men's ice hockey program dropped an overtime heartbreaker on Saturday evening, as Cornell scored the winner 14:39 into overtime to send the Big Red on to the title game and the Bobcats back to Hamden.
Quinnipiac had the lead late, thanks to a Chris Pelosi top shelf tally with 5:18 to go in the contest, that gave them a 2-1 lead heading down the stretch.
Cornell had pulled its goalie before taking a two-minute interference penalty but that would not stop them from making a difference anyway, scoring from a tough angle on a shorthanded rush with 1:39 to play to send the game into overtime.
Both teams' first goals were gritty ones in front, as Jonathan Castanga finished off a power-play scrum to give Cornell a 1-0 lead just seconds before the first period horn, while Andon Cerbone tied the game in the second off a goal that he was able to beat the Cornell netminder to a puck and deflect it over his shoulder and across the line.
