HAMDEN, Conn. — The No. 12/13 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey program will host playoff hockey for the sixth consecutive postseason, bringing in Brown for a best-of-three ECAC Quarterfinal series to try and earn a spot back in Lake Placid and the league's championship weekend.
The Bobcats earned the right by clinching their fifth consecutive ECAC regular season title, defeating St. Lawrence on March 1 to clinch the Cleary Cup.
STRIVED FOR FIVE
- For the fifth consecutive season, the Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team is the regular season champions of the ECAC, clinching it with a win over St. Lawrence on Saturday night.
- The Bobcats are the first team in league history to win five consecutive trophies and have won nine regular season championships in 12 years since their first in the 2012-13 campaign.
- They are the first NCAA Division I men's hockey team to win five consecutive regular season championships in the same league and the second to do it overall, with Minnesota State winning six consecutive trophies across the WCHA and CCHA.
SECOND IS THE BEST
- Grad student Jack Ricketts and sophomore Mason Marcellus were tabbed as Second Team All-ECAC honorees, released this week as part of the league's social media campaign honoring its star players.
- Ricketts enters quarterfinal weekend as the nation's active leading goalscorer after posting a career-high 20 this season. That mark put him second in the league and his 16 since the holiday break are the third-most in the country.
- Marcellus was a consistent offensive presence, recording a point in 24 of 34 outings en route to a career-high 24 assists. This included a nine-game point streak from Nov. 15 to Jan. 1.
FAMILIAR TERRITORY
- This will be the sixth consecutive season that the Bobcats will host playoff hockey in Hamden, a streak that began with Brown coming to M&T Bank Arena for an ECAC Quarterfinal series in the 2018-19 season.
- Quinnipiac has swept each of its last six home playoff games, winning the series by a combined 27-9.
POWERFUL PLAYS
- The Bobcat Power Play has been firing on all cylinders this season, currently converting on a 30.6 percent clip, the best in the nation entering the postseason
- This would best the Bobcats' previous high of 28.7 percent that they achieved in 2002-03 and is 0.6 percent off Harvard for the best power play in ECAC Hockey since the 2002-03 season.
- As it stands, they are also one of nine teams nationally since 2002-03 to record a 30 percent or better rate on the man advantage.
WHERE THERE'S A WILM, THERE'S A WAY
- Jeremy Wilmer has saved some of his best play for the end of the season, currently sitting as one of three Bobcats (Travis Treloar, Andon Cerbone) to have a six-game points streak.
- Since Feb. 14 when the stretch began, he has three goals and nine assists for 12 points, tied for the third-most nationally.
