Bobcats Defeat SPU To Win Final Home Series Of 2024

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Quinnipiac baseball team came back from down two runs to defeat the Saint Peter's Peacocks, 9-4, on Saturday afternoon at the University of Hartford.

With the win, the Bobcats will improve to 19-27 overall and 9-12 in MAAC play, while Saint Peter's will fall to 11-38 overall and 5-16 in the conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Saint Peter's struck first for the first time this series as Tyler Smith hit a two-run triple in the top half of the first inning.

Quinnipiac got within one run in the bottom of the second inning as James Marino hit an RBI single to right field to score Dominick Proctor.

The Bobcats put up a three spot in the bottom of the fifth inning to take their first lead of the game. Kyle Garbowski started the scoring in the inning with an RBI single to right field to bring home Jared Zimbardo to tie the game.

Christian Smith followed up and reached on a fielder's choice before advancing to second on an error. Keegan O'Connor and CJ Willis would come home to score on the play to make it a 4-2 game.

With Proctor on second and two outs in the sixth inning, Jared Zimbardo hit one into the left-center field gap and made it to third for a triple.

After a Saint Peter's pitching change, CJ Willis stepped up with two runners on and sent a triple into the right-center field gap to score both runners and make it a 7-2 game.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, James Marino hit a triple down the left-field line to bring home Christian Smith and Gabe Wright.

Saint Peter's made it a 9-3 game with an RBI single in the top of the eighth inning. The Peacocks cut the deficit to six with an RBI fielder's choice in the final inning, but the Bobcats didn't allow them to get any closer as they finished off the win.

NEWS AND NOTES

Eight different Bobcats recorded hits in the win and all nine starters reached base safely.
James Marino led the offense, going 2-for-4 at the plate and driving in three RBIs.
CJ Willis 2-for-3 drove in three runs with a triple and a run scored.
Kyle Garbowski (2-for-5) and Jared Zimbardo (2-for-5) each drove in a run.
Keegan O'Connor went 3-for-4 at the plate and scored two runs.
Proctor and DeRosa each picked up a hit in the win.
Zimbardo extended his on-base streak to 45 games.
Matt Alduino picked up his fourth win of the year after going 4.0 innings pitched in relief and three strikeouts.
