
Bobcats Outlasted By Pioneers In Tuesday Slugfest

With the loss, the Bobcats will fall to 19-28 overall, while Sacred Heart will improve to 30-21 in the 2024 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Quinnipiac got on the board first in the top of the first inning as Jared Zimbardo scored on a wild pitch. Sacred Heart would respond in the bottom half of the inning, scoring eight runs to take an 8-1 lead after the opening frame.
James Marino got the Bobcats closer as he reached on a fielding error, which allowed Christian Smith and Matt DeRosa to come home and make it an 8-3 game. The Pioneers extended their lead to six as they hit a solo home run in the bottom of the second inning.
In the top of the third inning, the Bobcats got a bit closer as they scored four runs in the inning. James Marino hit a two-run single through the left side to bring home Smith and DeRosa. Zimbardo would follow up with a two-run double to make it a 9-7 game.

In the next inning, the Bobcats plated three runs to get their first lead since the top of the first inning. Keegan O'Connor kicked off the scoring in the inning with a solo home run to left center field.

Gabe Wright tied up the game at nine with an RBI bunt single to the pitcher. James Marino drove in his third run of the game with a single to second base and Smith scored to give QU a 10-9 lead. The Pioneers took the lead right back in the bottom half of the fourth inning by scoring two runs to take the 11-10 lead.
Christian Smith tied the game back up in the fifth inning as he brought home Keegan O'Connor on an RBI groundout to the shortstop. The Bobcats plated two more runs in the top of the sixth inning to regain the lead. Dominick Proctor singled on a bunt and Gabe Wright crossed the plate on a throwing error to make it 12-11. Keegan O'Connor would give the Bobcats a two-run lead as he scored Proctor on a single through the right side.
The Pioneers responded again with three runs in the bottom of the sixth, which gave them a 14-13 lead heading into the seventh inning. The back-and-forth game continued as QU took the lead back in the eighth inning. Christian Smith reached on a fielding error by the shortstop which allowed O'Connor and CJ Willis to score and tie the game at 15. Matt DeRosa gave Quinnipiac the lead with an RBI single through the left side of the infield.

After the Pioneers tied the game in the bottom of the eighth inning, Jared Zimbardo singled through the left side to score Dominick Proctor in the ninth inning to give the Bobcats a 17-16 lead.
Sacred Heart would win the game in the bottom of the ninth on a two-run single down the right-field line to take the 18-17 win.
NEWS AND NOTES
- Eight different Bobcats recorded hits in the win and all nine starters reached base safely.
- Jared Zimbardo (4-for-6) and James Marino (2-for-3) each drove in three RBIs.
- Zimbardo doubled three times while extending his on-base streak to 46 games.
- Keegan O'Connor went 3-for-5 at the plate and scored three runs while driving in two RBIs.
- Matt DeRosa finished the day going 2-for-4 at the dish, scoring two runs, and driving in one run.
