FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Quinnipiac baseball team fell in the opening game of the three-game set to the Fairfield Stags, 7-2, on Thursday afternoon in Fairfield.

With the loss, the Bobcats will fall to 19-29 overall and 9-13 in the MAAC, while Fairfield will improve to 31-21 overall and 19-3 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Fairfield got on the board in the bottom of the first inning as a run came in on a double play to give the Stags an early one-run lead.

Fairfield struck again in the third inning as Bucciero hit a solo home run to left center field to double their lead to two.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Stags put up a three-spot to make it a 5-0 game. The first run of the inning crossed home on a single to center field before two more runners came home on a double to right field.

The Stags opened a 7-0 lead in the fifth inning when two more runs came home. An RBI fielder's choice brought home Fairfield's sixth run of the game and an RBI single made it seven.

Quinnipiac got on the board in the sixth inning as Jared Zimbardo doubled into the left-center field gap to score James Marino.

The Bobcats got one run closer in the ninth as Gabe Wright scored Kyle Garbowski on a fielder's choice, but the Stags closed the door to seal the 7-2 victory.

NEWS AND NOTES

Four different Bobcats recorded hits in the loss and seven reached base safely.
Jared Zimbardo finished the day going 1-for-4 at the plate with an RBI double.
Zimbardo extended his on-base streak to 47 games.
Gabe Wright drove in his 22^nd RBI of the season with his fielder's choice.
James Marino doubled to raise his batting average to .364.
Dominick Proctor went 3-for-4 at the dish and raised his season average to .244.
Ray McNaught, Jack Gannon, and Evan Jasek combined for 3.0 innings pitched and held the Stags to just two hits and zero runs.
