QU Bests Merrimack in Straight Sets

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac volleyball team defeated the Merrimack Warriors in straight sets on Wednesday night inside Burt Kahn Court.
Leilani-kai Giusta led the offensive charge with 11 kills in the three-set victory over Merrimack. Carola Negron Diaz registered 16 digs in her first start of her collegiate career.

SET ONE (25-22, Quinnipiac)
The Bobcats got going early as they took an 8-3 lead in the opening set, forcing Merrimack to take their first timeout. The Bobcats continued to apply the pressure out of the break and took a 19-14 advantage.
After a Merrimack timeout, the Warriors scored three straight points before Kyle Robinson called Quinnipiac's first timeout. The Bobcats scored six of the next eleven points to close out the first set, 25-22.
SET TWO (25-10)
Quinnipiac came out on fire in the second set, taking a 15-6 lead as Merrimack called their first timeout of the set. After the break, Quinnipiac went on a 4-2 run as the Warriors took their final of the set.
SET THREE (25-19)
Merrimack started the third set on a 6-1 run before the Bobcats used their first timeout of the set. After the Quinnipiac timeout, the Bobcats went on a run to take a one-point lead, 12-11, as Merrimack called a timeout of their own.

NOTES:
- Leilani-kai Giusta led the offensive charge with 11 kills in the three-set victory over Merrimack. Giusta has double-digit kills in five straight matches.
- Elena Giacomini was second on the team with eight kills and Yagmur Gunes recorded seven.
- Carola Negron Diaz registered 16 digs to lead the team in her first collegiate start.
- Bailey Brashear led the way on the defensive end as she recorded 6.0 total blocks.
- Damla Gunes recorded 29 assists and four aces in the effort.
