Softball Drops First Four at LMU Tournament

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Quinnipiac softball team dropped their first four games of the LMU Tournament on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 21-22. The Bobcats fell to LMU and Delaware on Friday, and Sacramento State and LMU on Saturday.
Bobcats vs. LMU (Game 1): L, 5-1
Fourth Inning – Sophomore Alexis Otero got the inning started by getting hit by a pitch. Junior Brighid Douglas then reached base on a fielder's choice, but she was not retired on the play due to throwing error, which gave the Bobcats runners on second and third. Senior Rachel Marchuk laid down a bunt, but the Lions could not get an out on the play, which allowed the Bobcats to bring home a run and take a 1-0 lead.
LMU would later score three unanswered runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to earn the 5-1 win.

Bobcats vs. Sacramento State: L, 10-4
Second Inning – With one out in the inning, Brighid Douglas stepped up to the plate and ripped a single up the middle. Serena Fogg then stepped into the batter's box and reached on a fielder's choice, which resulted in Douglas being thrown out at second. First year Sydney Tedim was next up to the plate and came through for the Bobcats as she singled up the middle, recording an RBI and sending Fogg home. Quinnipiac took a 1-0 lead.
Fourth Inning – With the Hornets leading 7-1, the Bobcats got a two out rally going as Tedim picked up a two out single, which brought senior Rachel Marchuk to the plate. Marchuk blasted a home run to left field to pick up the two-run homer for the Bobcats, and cutting the Sacramento State lead to 7-3 as Tedim and Marchuk scored.
Sixth Inning – Alexis Otero picked up a leadoff single to get the inning going for the Bobcats. Douglas was the next Bobcat to step up to the plate, and she also singled to give the Bobcats runners on first and second with no one out. Otero and Douglas would double steal to give Quinnipiac runners on second and third with one out. With two outs in the inning, Otero scored on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to 10-4.
The Hornets would hold the six-run lead and win, 10-4.
Highlights vs. Sacramento State
Fourth Inning – First year Katherine Rodriguez led off the inning with a walk, and then stole second during the next at-bat. She would then advance to third base on a wild pitch with only one out. Sydney Tedim singled to bring home Rodriguez to push across the only run of the game for Quinnipiac.
