Women's Soccer to Play Rider in MAAC Home Opener

Bobcats and Broncs set to kickoff in Hamden at 12:00
HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac women's soccer team returns home to host the Rider Broncs on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 12 p.m. The Bobcats are coming off a 3-0 win against the Canisius Golden Griffs, and the Broncs opened MAAC play with a 1-1 draw against Siena.

GAME NOTES
Last Time Out:
Quinnipiac opened MAAC play with a 3-0 shutout win against Canisius. Sophomore Selena Salas notched a career-high five points in the win, with two goals and an assist. Kelsey Goldring netted the third goal of the game and third for her this season to lead the team.
Scouting Rider:
The Broncs are 3-2-3 on the season and 0-0-1 in MAAC play. Rider and Siena finished last weekend's game with a 1-1 tie. Valeria Pascuet scored her first goal of the season for Rider in the 44th minute, and Siena out shot Rider 21-16. The Broncs will come to Hamden with a three-game unbeaten streak (1-0-2). Rider defeated Delaware St., 6-1, and tied Temple, 1-1, before playing Siena on Sept. 21. Mackenzie Rodrigues and Sofia Soares lead the team with seven points each. Rodrigues leads the MAAC in shots taken with 27 so far this season. Carmen Carbonell has played in eight games for Rider, allowing 11 goals against with a .766 save percentage.
Last Year against the Broncs:
In 2018, Quinnipiac lost to Rider, 1-2, on Oct. 17. Goldring scored the Bobcats' goal in the first half, but the Broncs scored two unanswered goals to secure the win. The all-time record for Quinnipiac when facing Rider stands at 2-4-1.
Defensive Unit:
Freshman Meaghan Phillips has started in seven of eight games for the Bobcats, allowing just six goals with 25 saves and three shutouts, which leads the MAAC. Her .806 save percentage is ranked fourth in the MAAC and her 0.86 goals against average is ranked third. As a team, Quinnipiac has allowed eight goals against, which is ranked third in the MAAC.
Results after MAAC Opening Weekend:
Three teams won their MAAC opening games, including Quinnipiac, Monmouth and Fairfield, who faced Canisius, Saint Peter's and Niagara, respectively. Manhattan is the only team who has not played a MAAC game yet.
