Bobcats Spoil Shutout Bid With Two Runs in Ninth Inning in 9-2 Loss
HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac baseball team scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth inning but the Bobcats fell in their second straight midweek game Wednesday afternoon to the Dartmouth Big Green, 9-2.
Despite the loss, Andre Marrero (West Springfield, Massachusetts) extended his hitting streak to nine games and has an RBI in six straight games. Samuel LaChance (Dover, New Hampshire) and Ian Ostberg (Northampton, Massachusetts) each recorded two hits to lead the Bobcats.
Quinnipiac trailed 5-0 through the first six innings of the game before Dartmouth tacked on four runs in the ninth inning. The Bobcats spoiled the Big Green's shutout bid with one out in the ninth inning after back-to-back RBIs from Marrero and LaChance.

NINTH INNING
- The Bobcats salvaged two runs in the ninth inning to break up the Dartmouth shutout
- With one out in the inning, Anthony Cruz (Burlington, Massachusetts) singled up the middle and went first-to-third on Ostberg's single through the right side with Ostberg moving up to second on the throw
- Marrero followed with an RBI groundout to third that allowed Cruz to score and Ostberg to move up before LaChance ripped a ground rule double down the left field line to make it 9-2.
- Marrero extended his hitting streak to nine games and has an RBI in six consecutive games as he continues to lead the Bobcats with a .325 batting average and 17 RBIs
- Cruz extended his hitting streak to four games and now has a hit in nine of his 12 games this season
- LaChance also had had a pair of doubles for the Bobcats for his first game with multiple extra base hits.
- Ostberg picked up a pair of hits to give him 22 on the season, the third-most on the team
- David Longstreeth (Hatfield, Massachusetts) had a solid inning of work out of the bullpen as he struck out two batters to lead the Bobcats
- The Bobcats return to MAAC play this weekend as they travel to Western New York to take on the Niagara Purple Eagles in a three-game series.
- First pitch of Saturday's doubleheader is set for 12 p.m. and Sunday's single game will begin at 12 p.m. at Bobo Field.
