Scouting Florida Atlantic
The Owls are 9-7 on the season and have won six of their last seven games heading into this week's mid-week series. Last time out, the Owls swept the Northeastern Huskies from Friday through Sunday and outscored the Huskies 18-11 on the weekend. Eric Keating will get the start on Wednesday as he sports a 16.20 ERA after allowing six earned runs in 3.1 innings of his four appearances.
All-Time vs. Florida Atlantic
The Bobcats and Owls have not met in the Division I era, as these two teams last faced off in 1986 and 1987 in Boca Raton. Quinnipiac is 1-2 all-time against Florida Atlantic, taking a 4-3 decision in eight innings during the 1986 season.
Last Time Out
The Bobcats went 1-2 against Florida Gulf Coast to open their spring break trip, coming up short in the first two games before salvaging the weekend with a win in the final game of the series. Quinnipiac lost by one run in each of the first two games, before prevailing for the 9-4 win on Sunday. The Bobcats outscored the Eagles, 22-19, on the weekend despite coming away with just one win. Andre Marrero and Colton Bender each batted .500 on the weekend as Bender had seven hits and Marrero had five.
Player of the Week
Andre Marrero claimed his first MAAC Baseball Player of the Week honors after his impressive weekend for the Bobcats down at Florida Gulf Coast. He is Quinnipiac's second straight weekly award winner after Chris Enns was the pitcher of the week last week.
Turning it Up
The Bobcats have won at least one game in each of their last three series since getting swept in the season-opener at UNC Greensboro. Following that sweep, Quinnipiac won a game at then-No. 20 Wake Forest and took two at Norfolk State before winning Sunday at Florida Gulf Coast. The Bobcats are averaging 6.4 runs per game, and 9.5 runs per game in the four victories.
Late Inning Magic
The Bobcats have been among the top teams in the nation in the final three innings, and have had several late inning comebacks. Quinnipiac has scored 30 of its 64 runs in the final three innings of ballgames this season.
Scafariello Milestone
In the opening game of Quinnipiac's three-game series at Florida Gulf Coast, Liam Scafariello recorded his 100th career hit in a Bobcat uniform with a single. Of Scafariello's 100 career hits, 59 have gone for extra bases including his 32 career home runs.
Marrero's Money
On his way to being named the player of the week, Marrero went 5 for 10 to bat .500 and reached base nine times for a .643 on base percentage. He also scored five runs and had three RBIs on the weekend. Marrero has now scored a run in six consecutive games.
Bend the Knee
Colton Bender also batted .500 on the week as he was 7 for 14, including his career-high four-hit game in the series finale with the Eagles. Bender has hit safely in six straight games and has a hit in seven of his eight games this season.
Can't Stop, Won't Stop
Evan Vulgamore had a pair of doubles on the weekend to give him five doubles on the season, good for the team lead. Vulgamore also scored two runs in the opening game of the series for his fourth multi-run game on the season. He also has hits in seven of the team's first 10 games.
Taking a Chance
Freshman Samuel LaChance hit his first career home run in the Bobcats 9-4 win over Florida Gulf Coast and went 2 for 4 in the game with his second career multi-hit game. LaChance has hit safely in all five games that he's started, and is batting .389 on the season with seven hits in 18 at bats.
Kyle XY
Kyle Maves continues to make a big impact in his rookie season as he picked up three hits over the weekend, walked three times and score three runs. Maves is batting .290 on the season and has eight hits in his last 21 at bats.
Driving Home
Kevin Huscher had his first three-RBI game on Saturday for the Bobcats since transferring to Quinnipiac last season as he ripped a bases-loaded double that scored all three runners. Huscher is the team-leader with nine RBIs on the season, already equaling his total from last season in 37 games played.
