Bender Tallies Three Hits but Bobcats Shut Out by Owls, 7-0
BOCA RATON, Fla. – Colton Bender (Lebanon, Connecticut) tallied three hits as he went 3 for 4 at the plate but the Quinnipiac baseball team was shut out for the first time this season, 7-0, at Florida Atlantic Tuesday night.
Just one game after recording a career-high four hits, Bender tallied a trio of singles as he record three of Quinnipiac's seven hits while freshman Kyle Maves (Burlington, Ontario) had a single and walked to reach base twice.
Freshman pitcher Derek Goldrick (Weare, New Hampshire) made his first collegiate start, allowing three runs on two hits and three walks with a strikeout over three innings of work.
Florida Atlantic struck early after a pair of walks before a two-run double from Pedro Pages to take a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Following the early runs, the Owls hit three home runs to round out their scoring as Jared DeSantolo and Francisco Urbaez each hit solo home runs and Eric Rivera hit a three-run home run.
Connor Mahoney (North Salem, New York) and Nick Paasch (Toland, Connecticut) combined to throw three scoreless innings from the sixth through the eighth inning with each recording a strikeout.
