Bobcats Conclude Three-Game Series at Eagles with Fourth Win of Season
FORT MYERS, Fla. – Colton Bender (Lebanon, Connecticut) and Andre Marrero (West Springfield, Massachusetts) each recorded career-highs with four hits Sunday afternoon as the Quinnipiac baseball team salvaged the final game of a three-game series at Florida Gulf Coast with a 9-8 win over the Eagles.
Quinnipiac scored runs in six of the nine innings on Sunday as the Bobcats scored early before hanging on for the win late. Andrew Workman (Pound Ridge, New York) and Robert Lewis (Seaford, New York) combined to pitch the final 4.2 innings of the game, allowing just four hits and one run. Workman picked up his first win of the season while Lewis earned his first career save.
Four different Bobcats came around to score two runs in the game as Kyle Maves (Burlington, Ontario) and Samuel LaChance (Dover, New Hampshire) joined Bender and Marrero. LaChance hit his first career home run with a drive to left center field in the third inning.
Anthony Cruz (Burlington, Massachusetts) and LaChance each had two-hit games while Maves stole a pair of bases after reaching base three times.

FIRST INNING
- The Bobcats struck in the opening inning after Maves reached with a leadoff walk.
- With two outs in the inning, LaChance singled to center field to advance Maves to third before Bender single to right field to score Maves easily
SECOND INNING
- Quinnipiac got the inning started with a one-out single to left field by Marrero
- Cruz singled to center to move Marrero up to second before Maves singled to left to load the bases
- Marrero came home to score on a wild pitch followed by Kevin Huscher's (Middleboro, Massachusetts) RBI groundout

- LaChance opened the third inning with his first career home run to extend Quinnipiac's lead to 4-0 in the first three innings
FIFTH INNING
- LaChance reached on a throwing error with one out in the inning and moved up to third on a Bender single up the middle
- The Bobcats loaded the bases with a Brian Moskey (Higganum, Connecticut) single to right to load the bases before Marrero singled through the left side to score LaChance from third base and Bender came around to score on a fielding error by the left fielder that extended Quinnipiac's lead to six runs
SIXTH INNING
- Maves led off the sixth with another walk Sunday afternoon and quickly stole second
- Huscher walked to put runners on first and second before the Bobcats executed a double steal to put both runners in scoring position
- Evan Vulgamore (Bow, New Hampshire) lifted a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Maves to extend the lead back to four runs before FGCU got a run back in the bottom half of the inning to cut the lead to 7-4
NINTH INNING
- Bender led off the inning with a double to right field and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt from Moskey
- Following a pitching change, Ian Ostberg (Northampton, Massachusetts) was hit by a pitch to put runners on the corners with one out
- Marrero followed up with a single to right field that scored Bender but Ostberg was thrown out trying to go to third which allowed Marrero to move up to second
- Cruz came up next and singled to left to score Marrero from second base to give the Bobcats a 9-4 edge
- Marrero went 4 for 5 two runs and two RBIs to lead the Bobcats offensive attack
- He has now scored a run in six straight games with nine total runs in that span
- Quinnipiac scored 22 runs in the weekend series against, it's most in a weekend series so far this season
- Bender extended his hitting streak to six games and has now hit safely in seven of his eight games this season
- Bender's four hits were his most in a single game in his career while he came around to score twice for the second straight game
- LaChance launched his first career home run as part of a 2 for 4 day at the plate and drew a walk to reach base three times
- LaChance's two-hit game was the second of his career as he has now hit safely in each of his five games this season and owns a .389 batting average
