LAST TIME OUT - Full Release
- For the second time in as many weeks, the Quinnipiac women's golf team broke multiple program records, this time at the Boston College Intercollegiate in Canton, Massachusetts.
- Queenie Lai's even-par, 72, set the standard for a team score of 297 in Tuesday's final round. The final round marks finished up a 54-hole performance of 913, which is the lowest 54-hole team score in the history of the program. Tuesday's round was the fifth-best round in Quinnipiac's history and was the second round (out of 5) this season that rank within the top five all-time.
- Quinnipiac standout Julia Kemmling played the final round of her collegiate career in last season's Yale Invitational.
- The Bobcats had four different golfers shoot in the 70s on Sunday in the final round. The Bobcats finished 10th out of 17 teams with a final score of 926 (+74). After the final round concluded, Quinnipiac honored its two seniors, Kemmling (Berlin, Connecticut) and Luciana Tobia-Palza (La Paz, Bolivia), in a senior day celebration.
- Quinnipiac junior Queenie Lai (Hong Kong, China) was named the September Golfer of the Month by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, as announced by the league offices on Wednesday.
- Lai earned two top-15 finishes in the month of September, placing T12 at the Boston College Intercollegiate and T14 at the Dartmouth Invitational. The junior shot final rounds of 71 and 72 at the two tournaments, leading her Quinnipiac team to two of the five lowest scores in program history and the lowest 54-hole score in program history.
- As a team, the Bobcats tallied 33 birdies over the course of two days at Boston College. Only Seattle (37) posted more birdies than Quinnipiac.
- Quinnipiac was third in the field in par 3 scoring at BC as the team played the par 3's in an average of 3.22 strokes.
- Sazhin's five birdies at BC moved her into a tie with 2019 graduate Luciana Tobia for most career birdies in program history (151). Queenie Lai is fourth on that list with 99 birdies and will look to become the fourth member of the 100 birdie club at Yale in two weeks.
- Lai has posted two par or better rounds already this season and is just two shy of the single season record that she set last year. The final round at BC also broke a tie with Sazhin for most par or better rounds in a career with six.
- Lai also recorded her fourth career 54-hole score of +11 or better and is one of just three players in program history to record such a score.
- Sakoda became the sixth Bobcat ever to shoot +13 or better in a 54-hole tournament.
- Quinnipiac women's golf coach John O'Connor has announced the Bobcats' schedule for the Fall 2019 season. Quinnipiac will compete in four tournaments in the Fall, in preparation for the Spring slate that culminates with the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship on Apr. 24-26. Like the 2018 season, the Bobcats will compete at the Dartmouth Invitational, Boston College Intercollegiate, and Yale Invitational. New to this season's schedule is the Lehigh Invitational in Bethlehem, Pa.
- "We have a very competitive schedule in the Fall," said O'Connor, "and we'll be competing against many of our Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opponents throughout the season. It's expected to be an outstanding Fall season with some great recruits coming in, so we look forward to the Fall season.
- O'Connor welcomes three new players for the 2019-20 season as members of the Class of 2023. The three student-athletes that will join the Bobcats in the fall are Kaylee Sakoda (Cypress, Calif./Troy), Leeyen Peralta (Brea, Calif./Cornelia Connelly School), Mia Grzywinski (Farmington, Conn./Farmington).
- The Quinnipiac women's golf team earned All-Scholar Team distinction from the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) or the second-consecutive season last month. The Bobcats recorded a 3.759 team GPA to rank 11th of all Division I women's golf programs. Quinnipiac was also 19th in team grade point average in all three NCAA divisions combined.
