HAMDEN, Connecticut - The Quinnipiac baseball team continues its road tour when it travels to Stony Brook this weekend for a three-game series, which will make it 20 straight road games to start the season for the Bobcats.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN
The Quinnipiac baseball team has played 17 straight road games to start the 2018 season, and almost got to break out the home whites against Yale on Tuesday, but the game was postponed an hour before game time due to field conditions. The beginning of the season has seen the Bobcats playing in Texas, Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina. After facing Stony Brook, the Bobcats have six more road games before their next scheduled home date on April 7, which could stretch the road streak to 26.
LAST MEETING WITH STONY BROOK
The Bobcats and Seawolves haven't met in quite some time. The last times the two teams crossed paths was when Quinnipiac took a neutral site doubleheader in Selden, New York over Stony Brook by finals of 7-0 and 4-1, which was Head Coach John Delaney's senior season with the Bobcats.
SCOUTING THE SEAWOLVES
Stony Brook, which is known well in baseball circles for its Cinderella run to the College World Series in 2012, comes into the weekend with a 9-9 record on the year. Michael Wilson leads the offense with a .338 average, two homers and 18 RBI, while Bobby Honeyman (.318, 10 RBI) and Nick Grande (.310, 2 HR, 11 RBI) are also over .300. Bret Clarke leads the pitching staff with a 3.22 ERA while closer Aaron Pinto has been lights out with six saves and a 0.00 ERA in 14 innings of work.
MOSKEY CONSISTENCY
Quinnipiac's leading hitter so far this year is junior outfielder Brian Moskey (.369), who was named the MAAC Player of the Week after a six-RBI game against Gardner-Webb. Moskey has been a frequent visitor to the basepaths this season, as he has reached via a hit or a walk in 16 of 17 games, with the only exception an 0-3 day against Old Dominion, which snapped a 10-game hitting streak. Moskey had multi-hit efforts in six of those 10 games, including a 3-for-4 effort against William & Mary. He also had a 4-for-4 day in a 2-1 win against the College of Charleston on March 14.
A LITTLE EXTRA
Junior designated hitter Liam Scafariello has made the most of his swings this season. Scafariello leads the team in RBI with 15, thanks to 10 of his 14 hits going for extra bases (seven doubles, one triple, two homers). A year ago, Scafariello had 16 home runs, tying the school's Division I record.
FRESHMEN STEP UP ON THE MOUND
Quinnipiac pulled off an impressive two-game sweep of Charleston last week after the Cougars came into the series with a 13-3 record. On Tuesday, freshman reliever Joe Preciado threw the final three innings without allowing a run to get the win, as the Bobcats came back for a 6-5 win. In the second game of the series on Wednesday, freshman Robert Lewis got the start and allowed one run over five innings, while fellow freshman Arthur Correiro came on to throw two innings of no-hit relief.
MAAC PRESEASON POLL
Quinnipiac baseball was picked to finish 8th in the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, as announced by the league office on February 7, 2018. The Bobcats were placed between Siena and Rider. Marist was slated to finish 1st, garnering seven first-place votes, with Canisius, Fairfield, and Niagara rounding out the top four.
HEAD COACH JOHN DELANEY
Head Coach John Delaney returns for his fourth season at the helm with Quinnipiac baseball. He has amassed 70 wins in his three-plus years as head coach. Qunnipiac won 29 games in 2015, which ties the program record for most wins in a single season. The Bobcats went 29-27 (15-9 MAAC) overall that year, finishing No. 3 in the conference standings - their highest regular-season finish in the conference since finishing No. 1 in 2007, when Delaney played for the team.

The Quinnipiac baseball team will head to Rhode Island on Tuesday for a 3 p.m. contest and then head up to Dartmouth on Wednesday.
