QU Women's Golf Finishes 3rd At Brown Bears Women's Invitational

SEEKONK, Massachusetts – The Quinnipiac University women's golf team finished the Brown Bears Women's Invitational at Ledgemont Country Club in third place out of 11 teams. The Bobcats shot a combined 310 (+26) for the second round to finish with a 36-hole total of 304 (+36).
Sophomore stand-out Alexandra Sazhin (New Fairfield, Connecticut) shot a 74 (+3) for the second round to pair with her 73 (+2) from Sunday for a 147 (+5) for the tournament a tie for 10th place. Freshman Queenie Lai (Hong Kong, China) finished tied for 19th with a 151 (+9) while Luciana Tobia-Palza's 153 (+11) put in her in a tie for 25th place.

Quinnipiac will compete in the St. John's Invitational on Oct. 23-24 at The Saint Andrew's Golf Course in New York, New York. The Bobcats finished second in St. John's tournament last season.

- Sazhin and Tobia-Palza were both +2 on the front nine. Tobia-Palza had a pair of birdies, on hole No. 7 and 9, while Sazhin birdied hole No. 1 before paring five of the next eight holes. Sazhin also birdied hole No. 15 and had six pars on the back nine to her at +1 through the final nine holes.
- Sazhin's 147 was her second-best score of the season and broke a string of back-to-back tournaments in which she shot 159 and 161 and had 18-hole rounds of 78 or higher.
- Lai opened the day with a birdie on hole No. 1 before four-straight bogeys looked to damper her day. She shot par-birdie-par on holes 6,7 and 8, respectively, and finished with a bogey on No. 9 to put her at +4 at the turn. She then pared six of her remaining holes to shot +3 on the back nine and +7 for the afternoon.
- Lai's 73 on Sunday matched her career-best that she shot for the second round of the Hartford Invitational. On Monday, she carded a 78 for a two-day 151 and her best score of her career, matching her tournament total at Dartmouth.
- Abby Chase (Beaver Dam, Wisconsin) followed her season-best 77 on Sunday with an 81 on Monday for a two-day total of 158, the top score of her season. Chase opened with a bogey on 17 but shot par on 10 of her last 16 holes.
- Julia Kemmling (Berlin, Connecticut) got off to a tough start of managed to shoot par or better, with a birdie on hole No. 1, on seven of her final 10 holes for the day.
