HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, New York – The Quinnipiac University women's golf team completed the first round of the 2017 St. John's Women's Intercollegiate in third place out of six teams. The Bobcats were led by sophomore Alexandra Sazhin (New Fairfield, Connecticut) and freshman Queenie Lai (Hong Kong, China), who both completed the first round tied for second place with a 76 (+4).

Junior Luciana Tobia-Palza (La Paz, Caracas) was a stroke-behind with a 77 (+5) while Abby Chase (Beaver Dam, Wisconsin), who was playing as an individual, shot a 78 (+6).

NOTES

Lai's second-place tie is the highest 18-hole place through her first nine collegiate rounds while her 76 is her second-best opening round score.
Sazhin has now shot four-straight rounds in the 70's after her season-high round (82) on the first day of the Yale Women's Intercollegiate.
Sazhin was one of eight players in the field to shoot +1 or better on all of Saint Andrew's Par 3 holes and one of five to shoot -1 or lower on all Par 5 holes. Her four birdies ranked second in the field.
Tobia-Palza was one of four players to shoot Even on all Par 3s, and one of three to shoot -2 or lower on Par 5's. Her five birdies led all student-athletes.
Chase joined Tobia-Palza as one of three to shoot -2 or better on the course's Par 5 holes, while her three birdies were the third-most among all players.
Estefania Morales (Caracas, Venezuela) shot an 84 (+12) to finish in 16^th place, out of 32 golfers, while leading the field with 13 pars.
Julia Kemmling (Berlin, Connecticut) carded an 86 (+14)

The Bobcats will play the final round of their fall schedule on Tuesday, Oct. 24 when they hit the links at Saint Andrews for the final round of the St. John's Women's Intercollegiate.
