
QU Men's Tennis Cruises to 5-2 Victory at St. Joseph's on Friday Night

MEDIA, Pennsylvania – Late on Friday night, the Quinnipiac men's tennis team picked up their first victory of the spring season, 5-2, over the St. Joseph's Hawks at the Springton Tennis Club.
The victory was the Bobcats first of the spring season as they improve to 5-2 (2-0 MAAC) overall while the Hawks fell to 3-2, snapping their three-match winning streak.
Kei Ezaka (Ojai, California), Freddie Zaretsky (Fair Lawn, New Jersey) and Kyle Alper (Dix Hills, New York) all picked up two wins for the Bobcats to lead the team in victories. Ezaka's wins were his 18th of the season while he moved up to 88 wins in his career. Zaretsky picked up two more wins to continue his stellar freshman season with his 23rd win of the season. Alper's pair of wins boost his win total to 25 this season with 13 singles wins and 12 doubles.
Willem van Biezen (Warmond, The Netherlands), Ryoma Haraguchi (New York, New York), Julian Rozenstein (Marlboro, New Jersey) and Luke Roser (Bernardsville, New Jersey) all picked up one victory in the Bobcats match win. Notably, Roser's victory was his 98th career victory, putting him two shy of 100. The win was also his 16th in doubles, good for the most on the team.
In doubles play, Roser and Zaretsky cruised to the first match victory of the day with a 6-2 win over Renier Moolman and Andres Urrea, 6-2, at No. 1 doubles. The Bobcats clinched the doubles point with another quick victory at No. 3 doubles as Ezaka and Alper cruised past Andre Fick and Dan Tan, 6-2. Haraguchi and van Biezen teamed up at doubles for the first time this season as they competed at No. 2 doubles, going to a tiebreaker set with Kyle Chalmers and Peter Dewitt, with the Bobcats duo pulling away, 7-6 (4).
Rozenstein was the first match done in singles play as he cruised to a straight set victory at No. 3 singles for the Bobcats, 6-4, 6-0 against Chalmers. At No. 1 singles for the Bobcats, Ezaka easily won his first set before going to a tiebreaker with St. Joseph's Moolman with Ezaka pulling away, 6-3, 7-6 (4). Zaretsky picked up the next win for the Bobcats to clinch the match victory with their fourth point of the match. At No. 2 singles, Zaretsky lost the first set against Urrea before coming back to win the next two sets, 2-6, 6-4, 7-5. Alper added one more point in the match with his victory in singles against Fick, playing two highly contests sets but winning them both, 7-5, 7-6 (4).
St. Joseph's took two points in singles from the Bobcats. The Hawks took the No. 4 and No. 6 singles matches. At No. 4, van Biezen and Tristan Boustany battled to a lengthy three-set match before Boustany pulled away after dropping the second set, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. Roser and Gates faced off at No. 6 singles and after a close first set, Gates pulled away with the 7-5, 6-1 win.
The Quinnipiac men's tennis team returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 6 PM against the Temple Owls (10-1) at the Legacy Tennis Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
