The Quinnipiac women's tennis team is heading down to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the surrounding area for a pair of matches on Friday and Saturday this weekend. The Bobcats will face the St. Joseph's Hawks on Friday night at 9 PM at the Springton Tennis Club in Media, Pennsylvania before heading into Philadelphia to take on the Temple Owls at the Legacy Tennis Center at 6 PM.
All-Time Series vs. St. Joseph's
This weekend will be the second matchup between St. Joseph's and Quinnipiac, their first matchup since Feb. 21, 2014. The Bobcats came away with a 4-3 win in that match down at Springton, with many current Bobcats getting wins in the match. Sophia Dzulynsky and Kelsi Oliphant picked up a win together at No. 3 doubles on their way to the point while Rachel Horton won at No. 3 singles in the match.
All-Time Series vs. Temple
The Bobcats and the Owls have faced off just two other times in program history, once in 2013 and once in 2002. Quinnipiac is 0-2 all-time against the Owls. The Bobcats fell 5-2 in Hamden against Temple on Apr. 7. 2013 prior to falling to the Owls, 4-3, on Feb. 24, 2002.
Scouting the Hawks
St. Joseph's is 1-1 on the season after opening up the spring with a loss to Navy before defeating Lafayette for their first win of the season. Five different players have tallied at least two wins in the spring season thanks in large part to the Hawks' 7-0 win over Lafayette on Feb. 12.
Scouting the Owls
Temple comes into the weekend with a 4-2 record overall and 1-1 mark in AAC play. The Owls knocked off Saint Francis University on Feb. 21, 7-0, to snap a two-game losing streak against Old Dominion and Cincinnati. Mariana Bedon leads the Owls with nine wins this season while No. 1 singles and doubles player Alina Abdurakhimova is second on the team with seven wins, including a 4-2 mark at No. 1 singles.
Last Weekend Recap
The Bobcats were in New Jersey last weekend to face the Seton Hall Pirates where they fell, 6-1. Sophia Dzulynsky and Sitilia Rencheli picked up individual wins for the Bobcats with a doubles victory, and Adrian Young won by default at No. 6 singles for the Bobcats only point.
Double Bubble
Dzulynsky picked up her 92nd victory of the season with that doubles victory against Seton Hall as she gets closer to the 100th career match. Dzulynsky has 14 wins this season, including 10 in doubles play in her senior season.
On a Roll
Rencheli's doubles win was her third victory of the season after missing the fall season. Rencheli and Dzulynsky have won doubles matches with each other in each of the last two matches. Rencheli nearly came away with another win in singles, which would have been her fourth straight individual victory, but was just edged in three sets after winning the first set.
After the Weekend
Quinnipiac will have one more match before traveling down to Orlando, Florida for their spring break trip. The Bobcats will hit the road on Friday, March 4 for West Point, New York where they will face the Army West Point Black Knights at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center at 3 PM.
