OUR TURN TO HOST
The Quinnipiac women's tennis team hosts the Quinnipiac Invitational this weekend with play beginning on Friday, Sept. 18 at 10 A.M. followed by action on Saturday, Sept. 19 beginning at 9 A.M. and play concluding on Sunday, Sept. 20 at 9 A.M. with all matches coming at the QU Outdoor Tennis Courts.
WHO'S COMING?
Eight other teams have been invited to the Quinnipiac Invitational, outside of the host Quinnipiac. Traveling to compete are the Fairfield Stags, Fordham Rams, Connecticut Huskies, Rhode Island Rams, Seton Hall Pirates, Sacred Heart Pioneers, Drexel Dragons and Providence Friars.
LAST SEASON'S QU INVITE
Quinnipiac played very well in doubles at last years' Quinnipiac Invitational as Jacqueline Raynor and Michelle Dassa defeated Sydney Young (Austin, Texas) and Sophia Dzulynsky (Miramar, Florida) in the Flight "A" championship match while Ariana Launie and Sitilia Rencheli (Sarasota, Florida) fell in the Flight "B" finals. In singles play, Dzulynsky and Rencheli each reached the semifinals of their respective flights.
DOUBLE OR NOTHING
The Bobcats put up an impressive showing last weekend at the Sacred Heart Doubles Festival as they sent four freshman to compete in their first ever college tennis tournament. The duo of Proyfon Lohaphaisan (Santa Clarita, California) and Rachel Horton (Stamford, Connecticut) went 4-1 to lead the team in victories while Dzulynsky and Jennifer Lu (Cypress, California) and Adrian Young (Orange Village, Ohio) and Alexandra Mircea (Glen Rock, New Jersey) each went 3-2.
PRO START
In her first career tournament, Lohaphaisan racked up an impressive four wins to tie her doubles partner Horton for the most on the team. Lohaphaisan is no stranger to winning after dominating in high school, including winning a league doubles championship and reaching the state quarterfinals. Just as impressive, Lohaphaisan went 59-3 in 2013, including 27-0 against league opponents.
Lu shined in her collegiate debut, playing with No. 1 doubles with Dzulynsky and picking up her first three victories. Lu is a four-star, highly ranked recruit out of Cypress, California who was ranked as high as No. 127 in the entire country. She was also named the Press-Telegram Dream Team Player of the Year in 2014.
YO ADRIAN
Another freshman to take the court last weekend, Adrian Young thrived with her doubles partner, Mircea, as the two teamed up to go 3-2. Young didn't skip a beat from high school, after she was named the Chagrin Valley Conference MVP in 2014 on her way to the CVC No. 1 Singles Championship as well as a team state tournament championship with Orange High School.
ALEXANDRA THE GREAT
Mircea is just as accomplished as her fellow freshman as she was named "The Record's" 2014 Player of the Year and finished her high school career with a 55-6 record. In her first weekend, Mircea went 3-2 with Young as the all-freshmen duo teamed up in Flight "C."
THE DZUL
Dzulynsky picked up three victories in the first weekend of her senior year to get off to a winning start. After a strong junior season, Dzulynsky is second on the active roster in career wins, posting a 78-61 record through three seasons of college tennis. Last season, Dzulynsky went 33-25 with 13 wins in singles and 20 wins in doubles. She was also named All-MAAC First Team at No. 2 doubles and All-MAAC Second Team at No. 1 singles. Dzulynsky also was among the Bobcats' leaders for wins in postseason play, tying former Quinnipiac women's tennis star Jacqueline Raynor and Michelle Dassa for three wins.
HORTON HEARS A WHO
Horton teamed up with Lohaphaisan to lead the team with four wins at the Sacred Heart Doubles Festival to get off to a fast start in 2015-16. Last spring, Horton returned to the court after recovering from an injury and put up a highly successful season. The junior went 22-12, setting career-highs in overall wins and singles wins (10). Through last weekend, Horton has already posted a 45-20 record.

After wrapping up the Quinnipiac Invitational this weekend, the Bobcats will have the week off before returning to action next weekend for the West Point Invite from Friday, Sept. 25 to Sunday, Sept. 27 with competition beginning at 9 A.M. each day.
