HAMDEN, Conn. – Freshman Alexandra Mircea (Glen Rock, New Jersey) picked up the only of the afternoon on Tuesday to lead the Quinnipiac women's tennis team in a 6-1 loss to the UConn Huskies.
Mircea won her matchup at No. 5 singles against UConn's Zaina Zaki to move into a tie with fellow freshman Proyfon Lohaphaisan (Santa Clarita, California) for the most singles wins on the team with three. Mircea is also third on the team in overall wins with nine on the season.
The Huskies (2-0, 0-0 AAC) swept all three doubles matches to take the doubles point and jump out to a 1-0 lead. Mircea and Adrian Young (Orange Village, Ohio) took on UConn's Shea Flanagan and Zaki but the Huskies' duo pulled away late to win, 6-4. With one match in the books, the next two matches were tight and up for grabs but Sophia Dzulynsky (Miramar, Florida) and Jennifer Lu (Cypress, California) came up just short against Emma Alderman and Yelyzaveta Pletnyeva, 6-4.
