
QU Women's Tennis Wins First Match of Season Over Sacred Heart, 5-2

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac women's tennis team picked up its first dual match victory of the season Wednesday afternoon with a 5-2 victory over the Sacred Heart Pioneers as four different players picked up two victories and all six players in the starting lineup won at least one match.
Rachel Horton (Stamford, Connecticut), Proyfon Lohaphaisan (Santa Clarita, California), Jennifer Lu (Cypress, California) and Adrian Young (Orange Village, Ohio) all won two matches for the Bobcats (1-1, 0-0 MAAC).
Picking up a victory in the match, Sophia Dzulynsky (Miramar, Florida) won her 80th career match to tie junior Sydney Young (Austin, Texas) for the most wins on the active roster. Dzulynsky won in doubles, picking up her 50th career doubles win and fifth of the season.
The Bobcats swept all three doubles matches to take the doubles point to put the team up 1-0 over the Pioneers. Dzulynsky and Lu were the first match complete of the afternoon, defeating Taylor Gurda and Olivia Podsiebierski in their match, 6-3. Horton and Lohaphaisan wrapped up their match at No. 1 doubles not much longer after, defeating Lindsey Post and Paige Olson, 6-3. Alexandra Mircea (Glen Rock, New Jersey) and Adrian Young completed the sweep, knocking off Claudia Ruiz and Tori Oates, 7-5.
In singles play, the Quinnipiac women's tennis team continued its winning ways with four wins in singles matches. Young was the first one off the courts for the Bobcats, sweeping her match at No. 6 singles against Ruiz, 6-0, 6-0. Horton also picked up a big two-set win in No. 4 singles, defeating Gurda, 6-1, 6-1. In No. 2 singles, Lu also won in two sets for the Bobcats, yielding just two games in the straight set win, 6-0, 6-2. Lohaphaisan wrapped up the wins for the Bobcats with a three-set victory in No. 3 singles, coming back to win over Olson, 3-6, 6-4, 10-6.
Mircea faced off against Podsiebierski at No. 5 singles and battled in a three-set match but Mircea ultimately fell after winning the first set, 2-6, 6-4, 10-5. Dzulynsky took the court at No. 1 singles against Sacred Heart but came up just short against Katie DeRienzo, 6-4, 6-3.
The Quinnipiac women's tennis team returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 11 with their first conference match of the season against Rider in Lawrenceville, New Jersey at 1 P.M.
