HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac men's tennis is set to hit the road for the first time in MAAC play, traveling to face Mount St. Mary's in Maryland on Saturday afternoon before playing Rider at noon on Sunday on their way back to Hamden.

HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac men's tennis is set to hit the road for the first time in MAAC play, traveling to face Mount St. Mary's in Maryland on Saturday afternoon before playing Rider at noon on Sunday on their way back to Hamden.
SCOUTING RIDER
- Rider is 3-14 with wins over Sacred Heart, Charleston, Niagara.
- They are currently 1-0 in the MAAC with their lone win over Niagara.
- QU is 8-1 against Rider since 2013. Rider took the last match on April 2, 2023.
- Mount is 6-10 with wins over Morgan State, Howard, Oneonta, Bloomsburg, and Loyola.
- They are 0-2 in MAAC play with losses at Niagara and against Fairfield.
- Jarrett Karnibad leads Mount with a 11-6 record.
- QU is also 8-1 versus Mount since 2003. The only Bobcat loss came on April 6, 2003.
- Arakaki went 4-0 in two MAAC matches this past week, helping get the Bobcats to a 2-0 start in league play.
- On Wednesday, March 27, he teamed up with Donovan Brown to win their No. 3 doubles match against Marist 6-3. The senior then outlasted Catala of Marist 6-1, 1-6, 6-3.
- He followed that up with two wins in the Bobcats' 5-2 win over Siena on Saturday, March 30 by again teaming up Donovan Brown to win their No. 3 doubles match 7-6(2) before winning another three sets match at No. 2 singles.
- He took down Varella of Siena, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 to gain the point for QU.
- The Bobcats moved to 2-0 in MAAC play after defeating Siena 5-2 on Saturday, March 30.
- QU swept the doubles point and got singles wins from Daniel Velek, Ayato Arakaki, Shaurya Sood, and Carlos Braun Simo.
- The Bobcats took down Marist 4-1 in a weather delayed match on Wednesday, March 27.
- After sweeping doubles, QU got three set singles wins from Daniel Velek, Ayato Arakaki, and Finn Burridge.
- Finn Burridge came back from a set down to clinch the match for the Bobcats at the No. 5 singles spot.
- After going 2-0 in the Bobcats win over Wesleyan, Senior Shaurya Sood was named MAAC Tennis Player of the Week on Wednesday, March 27.
- He is the second Bobcat to win MAAC Player of the Week honors this season with Carlos Braun Simo.
- QU won a 4-3 battle over instate foe Wesleyan on Wednesday, March 20.
- The Bobcats took the doubles point with wins from the teams of Daniel Velek / Shaurya Sood and Finn Burridge / Donovan Brown.
- Shaurya Sood, Finn Burridge, and Csanad Nyaradi each won their singles matches in straight sets.
- Velek and Sood are now 10-5 as a doubles team this spring.
- The Bobcats were swept 7-0 at Cornell on Sunday, March 17.
- Daniel Velek was the lone Bobcat to win a set, losing his match in a third set tiebreaker.
- QU swept Merrimack 7-0 on Friday, March 15.
- They got straight set singles wins from Daniel Velek, Ayato Arakaki, Shaurya Sood, Carlos Braun Simo, and Csanad Nyaradi.
- Finn Burridge won his singles match after falling behind a set.
THREE WINS IN A ROW OVER FORDHAM, HOLY CROSS, AND SACRED HEART
- For the first this season the Bobcats won three matches a in a row.
- They won the doubles point in each match, with the team of Daniel Velek and Shaurya Sood going 3-0 in their matches.
- Daniel Velek went 5-0 in his matches over this week.
- Ayato Arakaki and Finn Burridge each went 4-2 over the week.
CLOSE LOSS AT BROWN
- On Sunday, March 3, QU fell to Brown 4-3.
- Daniel Velek, Carlos Braun Simo, and Csanad Nyaradi each won their matches in straight sets.
- On Saturday, Feb. 24, the Bobcats lost a close battle with LIU.
- Although they lost the doubles point, Shaurya Sood, Donovan Brown, and Finn Burridge each won their singles matches.
- On Sunday, Feb. 25, QU lost 4-0 to Army.
- QU fell 6-1 to Monmouth last Sunday afternoon.
- Finn Burridge got the lone point for the Bobcats, winning his No. 6 singles match 3-6, 6-0, 7-6(2).
- Daniel Velek and Finn Burridge were the only winners in the Bobcats 5-2 loss at Bryant on Saturday, Feb. 10.
- Velek won his match in three sets after overcoming losing the first set.
- Burridge won in straight sets at the No. 6 spot.
- QU won in dominant fashion, 7-0 over Saint Michael's on Saturday, Feb. 3.
- They won each doubles match, only dropping five total games.
- The Bobcats also won every singles match while only dropping one set.
- The Bobcats fell to Temple 5-2 on Friday, Feb. 2.
- Daniel Velek was the lone singles winner, winning his match 6-4, 6-4.
- QU also secured the doubles point with wins from Daniel Velek / Shaurya Sood and Finn Burridge / Csanad Nyaradi.
- On Wednesday afternoon, First Year Carlos Braun Simo was named MAAC Tennis Player of the Week after a 3-1 weekend for the Bobcats.
- The native of Munich, Germany has already won seven singles matches as a Bobcat.
- On Sunday Jan. 28, the Bobcats fell to Yale University 6-1 at Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center in New Haven.
- The lone winner was Carlos Braun Simo at No. 4 singles. He defeated Walker Oberg of Yale, 6-1, 3-6, 12-10.
- The Bobcats were able to rattle off four singles wins after dropping the doubles point in a 4-3 win over Hofstra on Saturday, Jan 27.
- Daniel Velek, Ayato Arakaki, Carlos Braun Simo, and Donovan Brown each won in straight sets for the Bobcats.
- The lone doubles winners were Finn Burridge and Carlos Braun Simo.
- QU dropped its season opener at St. John's 7-0 on Wednesday, Jan. 24.
- Although they didn't win the doubles point, Shaurya Sood and Daniel Velek won their match 6-3.
- Graduate student Daniel Velek won the lone singles set for the Bobcats, taking the second set in his match 6-4.
- The Bobcats were selected second in the MAAC preseason Coaches' Poll, receiving 43 points and two first-place votes.
- QU played in three events in its fall season, finishing with an overall singles record of 23-15 and a doubles record of 14-13.
- Shaurya Sood advanced to Round of 16 singles in the ITA Regionals at Yale before falling in straight sets.
- Sood and Carlos Braun Simo each went 5-1 in singles in the fall.
- The First Year doubles tandem of Finn Burridge and Carlos Braun Simo went 6-3 together in the fall.
- The Bobcats went 10-10 overall during 2022-23 regular season, posting a 4-2 league record to earn a share of the MAAC regular season title under first-year Head Coach Bryan Adinolfi.
- QU defeated Marist, 4-3, on April 16 to clinch the No. 2 seed in postseason action.
- Quinnipiac men's tennis student-athletes Kemal Karagozoglu and Shaurya Sood earned All-MAAC First Team status at No. 1 doubles, as revealed by the league office on Friday, April 21.
- Karagozoglu and Sood helped lead the Bobcats with a perfect 6-0 record from the No. 1 doubles spot in MAAC play during the regular season. The duo went 12-3 together in total at No. 1 doubles.
- Five Bobcats reached 10+ singles wins this year, led by Donovan Brown (15-10 in 2022-23 singles matches). Brown and Csanad Nyaradi both went 4-2 in MAAC play.
- Kemal Karagozoglu and Shaurya Sood went a perfect 6-0 in MAAC doubles action to earn All-League status.
- Carlos Braun Simo, Finn Burridge, Robert Daus and Daniel Velek are the four QU newcomers.
- Ayato Arakaki, Donovan Brown, Yasha Laskin, Gaurav Mootha, Csanad Nyaradi, and Shaurya Sood will all return to the Bobcats ahead of the upcoming season.
