Volleyball Hands Fairfield First MAAC Loss of the Season

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac volleyball team sought revenge on Sunday afternoon, handing Fairfield their first conference loss by defeating them in five sets.
Elena Giacomini had a performance to remember. She led the offensive charge with 31 kills, reaching a new game-high each in the five-set victory. Damla Gunes registered a season-high 58 assists in the effort.

SET ONE (25-18, Quinnipiac)
The Bobcats opened with a commanding 6-0 run and maintained control despite Fairfield's attempts to close the gap. Quinnipiac took the first set 25-18.
SET TWO (25-27)
The second set was highly competitive, with seven ties. Quinnipiac initially went up 13-10, but Fairfield responded with a 5-0 run to lead 20-17. Ultimately, Fairfield won the set 27-25 to even the match.
SET THREE (25-22)
Fairfield started strong with a 5-3 lead, but Quinnipiac fought back, eventually pulling ahead 15-14 after a 3-0 run. A 10-5 finishing stretch secured the set for the Bobcats, giving them a 2-1 edge in the match.
SET FOUR (22-25)
Fairfield opened with a 6-3 run, though Quinnipiac quickly countered. The Stags gained a 14-10 advantage before a 3-0 Bobcats run tightened the score. Fairfield held off Quinnipiac's late surge, tying the match 2-2 with a 25-22 set win.
SET FIVE (15-9)
Fairfield scored first in the decisive fifth set, but Quinnipiac answered with a 4-0 run to lead 4-1. After Fairfield briefly tied it at 6-6, the Bobcats closed the match with a 5-0 run to secure a 15-9 set victory and the overall win.

- Two different Bobcats recorded double-digits in kills, with Elena Giacomini having 31 double-digit kills and Yagmur Gunes recording 19.
- Carola Negron Diaz led the team in digs, recording a career-high 22. Diaz has recorded double-digit digs in the last three out of four matches.
- Quinnipiac recorded 11.0 blocks, while Fairfield had 8.0
- The Bobcats registered 71 total kills to Fairfield's 58.
- Quinnipiac dominated the service line with eight aces in the victory over the Stags.
- Damla Gunes recorded 58 assists in the effort, which was a season high.
