Softball Takes Both Games vs. Niagara in MAAC Opener

HAMDEN, Conn.-- The Quinnipiac softball team swept MAAC opponent Niagara by scores of 6-2 and 6-5 on Sunday, April 2. The Bobcats move to 13-9 on the year and 2-0 in conference action. Four different Bobcats tallied RBIs in game two against the Purple Eagles and scored five runs in the second inning to force Niagara to battle back early.

SCORING SUMMARY
Game one
Third Inning-

The Purple Eagles took a one run lead in the top of the third as a triple to left center by Lindsey Mayo brought Cenname home.

Fourth Inning-

The Bobcats tied it up at one on Hannah Davis's infield fly to center put Serena Fogg on second, Bridget Nasir in scoring position and brought Mac Davis across homeplate as she pinch ran for Lala Pascual.
With runners on second and third, Sofia Vega doubled down the left field line and brought S. Fogg and Nasir in to add two more runs to the board.
With a 3-1 lead, QU's Brooke Hilliard singled to left center to score Mary Fogg and Vega, putting the Bobcats up 5-1.

Fifth Inning-

QU added another run to their lead as Pascual tripled to right field and then scored on a wild pitch.

Sixth Inning-

Niagara attempted to battle back, adding one run in the sixth as Mayo scored on a double to right center by Samantha Hare.

Game two-
First Inning-

Niagara started game two off on a high note as a single up the middle by Kellner advanced Hare to second and push Mayo across home plate.
Hare scored on a passed ball after a sacrifice bunt by Marrero put her in scoring position and gave the Purple Eagles a 2-0 lead.

Second Inning-

The Bobcats went off in the bottom of the second, putting up five runs that began with Nasir scoring from second on a single by S. Fogg.
S. Fogg advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by H. Davis to allow her to cross home on a single by Vega to right center.
After a pitching change by Niagara, with the bases loaded, Amanda Engel scored on a single by Hilliard up the middle.
M. Fogg and Vega added two more runs on a single by Apatiga up the middle, giving the Bobcats a 5-2 lead heading into the third inning.

Third Inning-

Another run was added to the board by QU as Nasir advanced to third on a groundout by S. Fogg and then a double to left center by H. Davis pushed Nasir home.

Fifth Inning-

Niagara added a run of their own in the top of the fifth as Hare score on a single by Cenname down the right field line.

Sixth Inning-

The Purple Eagles brought the game within one in the sixth, adding two runs on a double by Kellner to left center. The two run RBI was not enough, however, as the Bobcats took the game 6-5.
