Bobcats Advance in NCAA Tournament, Will Face Ohio State on Saturday, March 11
COLUMBUS, OHIO - Quinnipiac women's ice hockey outlasted Penn State on Thursday night in a thrilling comeback overtime victory in the first round of the 2023 NCAA Women's Ice Hockey Tournament. First year Madison Chantler scored the game-winning goal in triple overtime to send the Bobcats on to the next round.
Graduate Shay Maloney scored the first goal of the NCAA Tournament four minutes into the first period. Senior Kate Reilly tallied the game-tying goal in the third to force the three overtimes necessary to advance the Bobcats into the regional final.
Quinnipiac rewrote the record books with the 109:37 contest, marking the third-longest women's ice hockey game in tournament history. Assistant Coach Amanda Alessi (Mazzotta) has officially been a part of the top three longest women's ice hockey matchups.
The win marks the second consecutive year that the Bobcats have won an NCAA Tournament game and the Bobcats 30th win of the year. QU also won in the opening round of the Columbus Regional in 2022 with a 4-0 win over Syracuse.
Quinnipiac advances to play Ohio State at OSU Ice Rink on Saturday, March 11 at 5:00 PM in the Regional Final.
