Hamden, Conn. – Quinnipiac men's soccer returns to the pitch Wednesday in Hamden, facing the Stonehill Skyhawks to wrap up their non-conference schedule.
The Bobcats are now 4-1-1 since dropping their opener. They have outscored opponents 10-1 on their home turf this season.
THE MATCHUP: vs. STONEHILL
- Stonehill is 2-4 so far this season, defeating both the University of St. Thomas (Minn) (1-0) and Hartford (3-2). The Skyhawks have dropped three of their last five after opening the season losing 5-3 to La Salle.
- The Skyhawks have nine goals so far this year. Jacob Woznicki leads the team with five goals and 10 points.
- This will be the first meeting between the Bobcats and Skyhawks.
- Senior Tomas Svecula and first year Alexander Stjernegaard have both earned MAAC Weekly Awards, as announced by the league office on Monday, Sept. 19, 2022.
- Tomas Svecula earned MAAC Offensive Player of the Week, while Alexander Stjernegaard earned MAAC Rookie of the Week.

QUINNIPIAC DROPS NON-CONFERENCE MATCH AT HARVARD (9/17/22)
- Sam McCann scored Quinnipiac's lone goal as they dropped their matchup to the Harvard Crimson, 3-1.
- McCann's first goal of the year and fifth of his career came in the 82nd minute of an assist from Sander Sonsterud.
- Sonsterud recorded his first collegiate point on McCann's goal.
FIVE DIFFERENT BOBCATS SCORE IN WIN OVER SACRED HEART (9/14/22)
- David Bercedo, Alexander Stjernegaard, Alex Holle, Tomas Svecula, and Ole Frigstad each found the back of the net for the Bobcats in their victory in Hamden.
- This was the first time five different Bobcats scored in a game since April 5, 2021 vs. Iona.
- Both Tomas Svecula and Alexander Stjernegaard had a goal and two assists to lead the way for the Bobcats.
- Tomas Svecula and Alex Holle both scored on Saturday afternoon to push the Bobcats past the CCSU Blue Devils.
- Holle's goal came in the 57th minute to give the Bobcats the lead. Erik Langwagen found Holle trailing the play and sent a beautiful pass over and one that Holle took full advantage of.
- Karl Netzell made 10 saves in the effort to win his first game as a Bobcat.
- David Bercedo and Jason Budhai both scored on Tuesday night at Northeastern, as Quinnipiac men's soccer played to a 2-2 draw vs. the Huskies at Parsons Field.
- Total shots were 7-6 in favor of the Bobcats, with shots on goal even 3-3.
- Karl Netzell made one save over 90 minutes at goalkeeper in the second action of his NCAA career.
- David Bercedo netted two of three Quinnipiac goals on Saturday afternoon, leading the Bobcats past Hartford, 3-0, in Hamden to continue non-league play.
- The Bobcats move to 2-1 so far on the young season.
- Bercedo's goals came in the 6th minute and 11th minute of action. Brage Aasen assisted on both goals from Bercedo. In the 64th minute, Tomas Svecula added a penalty kick goal to give the Bobcats insurance.
- Goalkeeper Matthew Pisani made two saves, as the Bobcats defense earned its second clean sheet of the 2022 campaign.
- Brage Aasen netted both of Quinnipiac's goals on Tuesday evening, leading the Bobcats past Vermont, 2-0, at Virtue Field in non-league play.
- The Bobcats move to 1-1 so far on the young season.
- Aasen's goals came in the 33rd minute and 36th minute of action. Alex Holle assisted the first score, and captain David Bercedo earned a helper on the second goal.
- Goalkeeper Matthew Pisani made six saves, as the Bobcats defense earned its first clean sheet of the 2022 campaign.
- Noah Silverman and Jason Budhai each scored for the Bobcats, as QU dropped its 2022 season opener at Boston College on Aug. 25.
- Silverman's goal – the first of his career – came less than 20 seconds into the new season.
- Budhai scored in the second half of action, his third goal in the last two seasons.
- The Bobcats were selected No. 4 in the 2022 Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll, as announced by the MAAC office on Thursday, Aug. 18.
- QU earned 78 points in the poll, finishing just behind Marist, Rider and Fairfield for the top spot.
- Senior forward Brage Aasen – Quinnipiac's leading goal scorer from a season ago – was named to the Preseason All-MAAC team for Quinnipiac. Aasen recorded a team-best 11 goals to go along with three assists last year. The All-MAAC selection from a season ago has tallied 17 goals and 13 assists over his first 43 collegiate games.
- Former Quinnipiac standout Eric Da Costa will enter his 18th season at the helm of the Bobcats men's soccer program in the fall of 2022. He is the longest tenured men's soccer coach in Quinnipiac's NCAA history.
- A product of Quinnipiac's strong soccer tradition, Da Costa's formula for success and his reputation for assembling winning teams are evident after 16 seasons at his alma mater. Da Costa has a 134-120-52 record during his time at Quinnipiac, and has led the Bobcats to a postseason conference tournament appearance in nine of the last 10 seasons (2012 in the NEC, 2013-spring 2021 in the MAAC).
- Since joining the MAAC prior to the 2013 season, Quinnipiac has appeared in four MAAC Tournament title contests (2013, 2016, 2018, spring 2021). Under Da Costa's tutelage, the Bobcats have posted an impressive 53-22-11 mark in regular season MAAC games.
- Quinnipiac's fall 2022 schedule features 18 regular season contests in total.
- The Bobcats will host nine home games at the QU Soccer Stadium in Hamden.
- QU begins MAAC play on Wednesday, Sept. 28, when the Bobcats travel to Loudonville, N.Y. for a date with Siena. The Bobcats then return home to the QU Soccer Field for their MAAC home opener against in-state rival Fairfield on Oct. 1.
- The Bobcats won nine games in the fall 2021 campaign, going 6-3 at the QU Soccer Stadium in Hamden. QU won five consecutive games to begin the season, defeating Boston College (first time since 2007), UMass Lowell, Sacred Heart, CCSU and Harvard.
- The Bobcats received votes twice in the fall of 2021 for the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll – which recognizes the top Division I programs in the nation. Da Costa and the Bobcats claimed three All-MAAC awards at the end of the regular season: Brage Aasen: All-MAAC First Team, Paulo Soares: All-MAAC Second Team, Sam McCann: MAAC All-Rookie Team.
- Quinnipiac finished 9-8 in total (4-6 MAAC).
