
Bobcats Split MAAC Doubleheader with Marist on Senior Day

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac softball team split a MAAC doubleheader with the Marist Red Foxes on Saturday, April 30. The Bobcats won game one, 5-4, in walk-off fashion with a stellar come-from-behind win over the Red Foxes. Marist came back strong and defeated Quinnipiac, 13-5, in five innings in game two.
The Bobcats also celebrated the team's three seniors, Kayla Jensen, Sydney Bruner and Ela Henry before the game.
Quinnipiac moves to 12-23 on the season with a 5-9 MAAC record. Marist improves to 21-25 with a 9-7 conference record.
Game One Recap:
Fifth Inning – Marist held a 4-0 lead until the bottom of the fifth inning. Gianna Palmisano got the inning started with a single. Karolyn Walker then reached first base on an error by Marist's first baseman. With Palmisano on third base, Walker stole second, which distracted the Marist defense, and Palmisano was able to steal home.
Seventh Inning – The Bobcats' offense was started by Palmisano once again after she hit a single to center field. Walker then reached first base on a fielder's choice, and Palmisano was tagged out at second. Julia Woeste was walked, allowing Walker to advance to second. Brooke Hilliard hit a massive triple that allowed Walker and Woeste to score, taking the Marist lead down to one run. With Hilliard on base, Kayla Thomas hit a single to left field, and Hilliard tied the game. Alyssa Noce came in to pinch run for Thomas. Lala Pascual stepped up and hit a single to center field. The Marist center fielder could not pick up the ball on the bounce, and Noce scored the game-winning run to secure the win for Quinnipiac.
Notable Stats:
First Inning – Marist jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, but the Bobcats came back to cut the lead to just one run. Bridget Nasir opened the game with a triple to right field. Hilliard hit a ground out to ss, allowing Nasir to score. Thomas hit a single up the middle, and Pascual hit a double to left field, allowing Thomas to advance to third. Jensen reached first on an error made by the Marist left fielder, and Pascual and Thomas were both able to score on the play.
Fourth Inning – Down 11-3 in the fourth, the Bobcats had some work to do offensively. Quinnipiac added two runs in the fourth to cut the lead to six. Taylor Walton hit a sacrifice fly ball to center field, allowing Hilliard to score. Jensen then hit a double, and Thomas scored from second base.
The Red Foxes tallied two more runs to extend its lead to eight. After the completion of the fifth inning, Marist would win off the mercy rule, 13-5.
