QU wins fourth MAAC title
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - Quinnipiac women's golf overcame a four-stroke deficit entering the final day of the MAAC Championship to emerge as back-to-back MAAC champions, claiming its fourth MAAC title in program history. The Bobcats placed three golfers inside the top 10 and claimed the team championship by seven strokes over second place Albany.
As a team, Quinnipiac shot 296-306-299– 901 (+37) to break the MAAC Championship record for best three-round team score at the tournament.
Junior Leeyen Peralta led Quinnipiac's championship effort by shooting +2 on the week and earning a first place finish on the individual leaderboard to earn MAAC Golfer of the Year honors. The individual win at the MAAC Championship marks Quinnipiac's first individual champion since Alexandra Sazhin in 2017. Peralta's tournament win was her second of the season, one victory shy of tying Luciana Tobia for the single-season program record for most tournament wins in a single-season.
After shooting 71 (-1) in round one and 74 (+2) in the second round, Peralta shot a 73 (+1) to finish at 218 (+2) to break the record for the best three round score of all-time at the MAAC Championship
Kaylee Sakoda joined Peralta inside of the top-five, as she finished alone in second place after shooting 71-77 through the first two rounds, before closing with a 71 (-1) to finish at 219 (+3) for the tournament. Sakoda's score of 219 (+3) stands as the second best three-round score of all-time at the MAAC Championship, behind Peralta's 218 (+2).
First-year Fuge Zhang rounded out Quinnipiac's top-10 finishers by tying for seventh after shooting +5 on the final day. Zhang shot +12 on the tournament to earn her seventh place standing. Aimee Uchida carded a 78 (+6) on Sunday to close the tournament at +24 to tie for 23rd place, while Meg Yoshida shot 85 (+13) on the final day and +36 overall to finish in 35th place.
