HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac baseball team's comeback attempt came up short, as it was downed by crosstown rival Yale at home, 8-7, on Wednesday afternoon at the QU Baseball Field.

With the win the Bobcats fell to 9-21 on the season, while the Bulldogs improved to 17-11 on the campaign with the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bobcats struck first for a run in the bottom of the first after Danny Melnick hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Kyle Maves from third, putting QU ahead 1-0. However, Yale responded with six runs of their own in the second inning to push ahead 6-1.

Trailing 6-2 in the bottom of sixth with a runner on second, Anthony Donofrio came through with an RBI double to left to trim the deficit in half at 6-3. However, Yale responded with a run in the seventh to extend its lead to 7-3.

QU was able to plate two runs in the eighth and two in the ninth behind two-run homers from Michael Kohn and Keegan O'Connor, but it wasn't enough as they eventually fell, 8-7.

Ryan Hutchinson (0-2) got the start and took the loss after allowing five runs in 1.2 innings of work
Carter Poiry tossed 2.0 scoreless innings in relief
Poiry tallied three strikeouts in the outing
