Bobcats Edged by Maine, Hartford in Home Doubleheader

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac softball team hosted day one of the QU Round Robin with three games between Maine, Hartford and Quinnipiac. Maine took the first game against the Hawks, 9-2. Hartford then took the second game of the day against Quinnipiac, winning 9-4. In the third game of the day, the weather impacted the final two innings and the game was called due to rain. The Black Bears will be awarded the win after being up 8-4 at the time of the cancelation.
Kayla Thomas and Lala Pasucal led the Bobcats with eight RBIs combined and one home run, which was Thomas' fourth of the season.
Highlights vs Hartford:
Second Inning - The Hawks lead the game 2-0 as the Bobcats came up to bat in the second inning. Taylor Walton hit a single to the left side and then advanced to second base after an error from Hartford's first baseman. Serena Fogg then reached first base on a second Hawks' error. Gianna Palmisano stepped up and hit a single up the middle, allowing the runners to advance. Lala Pascual then hit a double, allowing Walton, Fogg and Palmisano to all score, giving the Bobcats a 3-2 lead.
Sixth Inning - Hartford extended its lead to 7-3 until the sixth inning. The Bobcats were able to close the lead by one run. Kayla Thomas hit a single to left field and later scored off a RBI single from Pascual.
The Hawks would hold on to win, 9-4.
Notable Stats:
Second Inning - Maine got up early, taking a 2-0 lead, but the Bobcats came up in the second and third innings. Kayla Thomas got the Bobcats' offense started with a home run to left field in the second to cut the Black Bears' lead to one run.
Second Inning - Quinnipiac took a 3-2 lead in the second inning. Cy Gonzalez reached first on an error by the Maine third baseman. Nasir followed and advanced to first on an error by a Black Bear in the infield. Pascual continued her strong play with a double to center field, allowing Gonzalez and Nasir to score.
Fifth Inning - The Bobcats added one more run in the fifth, trailing the Black Bears, 7-3. With Nasir on second base, Thomas doubled to left field, allowing Nasir to score.
Due to rain, the game was paused in the middle of the sixth inning. The game will not be finished at a later date, and the Black Bears secured the 8-4 win.
Notable Stats:
The Quinnipiac Round Robin will continue on Sunday, March 27 with three more games with Maine and Hartford. The Bobcats will face Maine at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday.
