Bobcats Edged in First Two Games of Yale Invitational

Quinnipiac drops a five-set thriller to Hartford, edged by Syracuse
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac women's volleyball dropped the first two games of the Yale Invitational on Friday, Sept. 4 in New Haven. The Bobcats were edged by Syracuse, 3-0, in the first match of the tournament. Quinnipiac later fell in a five-set thriller to the Hartford Hawks.
Senior Maggie Baker led the team with 20 kills, and sophomore Chloe Ka'ahanui recorded 58 assists through two matches. The Bobcats will play in one more match at the Yale Invitational tomorrow against the Bulldogs at 4 p.m.

QUINNIPIAC STATISTICAL LEADERS Baker and Diaz led the Bobcats with six kills each. Nicole Legg and Georgia Tselepi added four of their own kills to the Bobcats' offense. Faavae Kimsel Moe recorded eight digs to lead the team.
SET ONE
Quinnipiac started the first set strong with an ace by Chloe Ka'Ahanui and later took a 6-4 lead over the Orange. Baker kept the pace going with a kill from Ka'Ahanui to give the Bobcats a 9-6 lead. The Orange came storming back, scoring four straight points to take the score to 10-9. Syracuse would hold onto its momentum and take the first set, 25-20, with five aces and three blocks. The Bobcats tallied two blocks and notched a .200 hitting percentage, which Syracuse hit .194.
SET TWO
Syracuse went up 4-0 before Baker got the Bobcats going with a kill from Ka'Ahanui to take the score to 4-1. Quinnipiac fought back, coming within three of the Orange after a second kill from Baker. The Bobcats came back to cut the lead to one after a kill from Diaz. The Orange held on to a strong lead and took the second set, 25-13.
SET THREE
The Orange opened the third set with a 4-2 lead, but the Bobcats came back and took a 6-4 lead after an ace by Tselepi. Baker added another kill and gave Quinnipiac a 7-6 lead. The third set scoring went back-and-forth until the Orange broke away and tallied six points in a row. Syracuse held on the lead and won the third set, 25-14, and the match, 3-0.

QUINNIPIAC STATISTICAL LEADERS SET ONE
Hartford jumped to an early 4-1 lead as the first set began. Sophomore Lexi Morse and senior Olga Zampati tallied one kill each to take the score to 6-3. The Hawks snagged a bigger lead, taking the score to 8-3, after an attacking error by Alexandra Tennon. The Bobcats came back with two kills by Zampati and Tselepi to take the score to 8-5. The scoring went back-and-forth, but the Hawks took the first set, 27-25. Both teams tallied two blocks each, and the Bobcats had the edge on aces with three, compared to Hartford's zero.
SET TWO
The Bobcats got on the board in the second set, earning the 25-21 win to tie the match. Despite Hartford's strong 5-2 start, the Bobcats stayed in it and tallied five points in a row to take the lead in the middle of the set. The Bobcats earned the second set win after an attacking error by Hartford. The Bobcats added three more blocks and one ace in the set.
SET THREE
Hartford started the third set strong, jumping out to an 7-1 lead. Quinnipiac would rally back, and the teams would trade leads throughout the set. The Hawks, however, would hold on to win the third set, 25-23. Both teams recorded two aces each, and the Bobcats tallied four more blocks in the third set.
SET FOUR
The Bobcats dominated the fourth set, sending the match into the fifth. In the fourth set, four different Bobcats tallied kills. As Quinnipiac opened the set with a 4-3 lead, the Bobcats then added another six-straight points to extend the lead to 10-3. Quinnipiac never looked back and took the fourth set, 25-16, recording the biggest margin of victory in any set of the match.
SET FIVE
Both teams battled in the fifth set. Quinnipiac jumped to a 5-3 lead after a kill from Aryanah Diaz. The Hawks came back, tallying three points in a row and forced Quinnipiac to take a timeout. Hartford ended the set with a kill by Camryn Luginbulh and won the fifth by a score of 15-13, taking the match, 3-2.
