Otero, Brundrett Lift Softball over Manhattan in MAAC Sweep

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac softball team opened MAAC play with a two-game sweep over the Manhattan Jaspers on Saturday, March 30. Senior pitcher Kendall Brundrett led the Bobcats in the first game with a 2-0 shutout win, and freshman Alexis Otero powered the team to victory in the second game with a three-run homerun in the bottom of the sixth inning to put the Bobcats up, 8-5.
SCHEDULE ANNOUCEMENT
The doubleheader against Saint Peter's scheduled for tomorrow, March 31, will now be played on Monday, April 1 at 1 and 3 p.m., at home, due to incoming weather.
Game 1
First Inning - The Bobcats scored both runs in the first inning. Sophomore Kayla Jensen led the Bobcats off with a single to center field. Seniors Rebecca Drake and Erin Larsen both recorded a run to give the Bobcats a 2-0 lead.
Highlights
Second Inning - Quinnipiac tallied five runs in the second inning to take a 5-1 lead over Manhattan. Freshman Danielle Sorenson hit a single and junior Rachel Marchuk tallied a double to lift the Bobcats up in the second. Sorenson and Jensen both scored on on Marchuk's double. Drake later came and hit a double of her own, allowing Marchuk to score. To finish the inning, Larsen hit a double to send Drake home from second base.
The Jaspers tied the game, 5-5, in the fourth inning. Freshman Lauren King came in to the game to relieve freshman pitcher Brooklyn Maguire. The score would remain tied until the bottom of the sixth inning.
Sixth Inning - Marchuk got on base with a single to right field. Drake hit her second double of the game to send Marchuk to third base. Larsen got on first base after a fielder's choice, and Marchuk was thrown out at home. Otero then stepped up to bat and hit a three-run homerun to give the Bobcats the 8-5 lead.
The Bobcats would close out the top of the seventh inning and hold on to win the second game of the day, 8-5.

- King came in with the score tied, 5-5, and held the Jaspers to zero runs and three hits to earn the win. The freshman is now 5-3 on the season.
