Marrero Steals Home in Loss at Yale

Baseball Falls to Bulldogs, 11-2, in Midweek Clash at Yale Field
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Andre Marrero (West Springfield, Massachusetts) had a pair of hits, including a triple, and stole home Wednesday afternoon but the Quinnipiac baseball team fell to the Yale Bulldogs, 11-2, in the first game in Connecticut of the 2019 season.
Marrero tripled to score Kyle Maves (Burlington, Ontario) with two outs in the top of the eighth inning for Quinnipiac's first run of the game. With a left-hander on the mound, Marrero proceeded to steal home against the Bulldogs for his sixth steal of the season.
Yale scored all 11 of its runs in the first three innings of Wednesday's game, including five runs in each the second and third inning before Blake DeCarr (Foxboro, Massachusetts) settled things down as he allowed just three hits with seven strikeouts over the final 5.1 innings of the game.

EIGHTH INNING
- After back-to-back groundouts to start the inning, Kyle Maves (Burlington, Ontario) drew a two-out walk to put a runner on base
- Marrero tripled to right field, scoring Maves all the way from third base
- In the next at bat, Marrero stole home to with left-handed pitcher Rohan Handa on the mound for the Bobcats second run of the inning
- Marrero recorded both Quinnipiac hits as he went 2 for 4 on the afternoon with his first triple of the season
- Marrero was the first Bobcat to steal home since Ryan Nelson on March 26, 2016 against Marist
- Marrero leads the team with 10 walks and six stolen bases while his 18 hits and 12 runs scored are second on the team
- DeCarr was stellar in relief with seven strikeouts in 5.1 innings pitched, both of which are good for career-highs
- He is the first Quinnipiac pitcher with seven strikeouts in relief in at least the past five seasons
- Maves drew two walks in a game for the second time this season and has now reached base safely in six straight games that he has had a plate appearance
- The Bobcats make their much anticipated return to the Quinnipiac Baseball Field to for the home opener and MAAC opener on Saturday as Quinnipiac hosts Saint Peter's in a doubleheader on Saturday with the first pitch of the first game set for 12 p.m.
