Softball Completes Madeira Beach Invitational

MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. –The Quinnipiac softball team finished play at the Madeira Beach Invitational going 1-2 with an 11-2 victory over Akron and a 6-5 loss to Central Arkansas and a 3-2 loss to Ball State.
GAME THREE vs CENTRAL ARKANSAS
First Inning: The Bears scored all six runs in the first inning off of three hits and two Bobcat errors.
Third Inning: Senior Taylor Troyan recorded a single up the middle to lead off in the third. Junior Megan Dyson pitch ran for Troyan. Freshamn Bridget Nasir singled to right field and recorded an RBI, allowing Dyson to score from third base. After the third, the Bears led 6-1.
Fifth Inning: Freshman Hannah Davis was walked. Sophomore Kayla Jensen tallied an RBI single to send Davis home. The Bobcats trailed, 6-2, after the fifth.
Sixth Inning: Nasir was walked to start the sixth inning. Sophomore Brighid Douglas hit a two-run homerun to send Nasir home. Later, freshman Alexis Otero singled up the middle and scored an unearned run to take the score to 6-5 in favor of the Bears.
Highlights: Senior Kendall Brundrett pitched five innings, allowing three earned runs and recording three strikeouts. Nasir went 1-2 with one run and one RBI. Douglas tallied two RBIs with one run and went 1-4. Otero went 1-3 with one run.
GAME FOUR vs AKRON
Second Inning: Otero homered to center field to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead over the Zips.
Fourth Inning: The Bobcas scored three runs in the fourth inning starting with Douglas recording a double. After senior Rebecca Drake was walked, Douglas scored from third with senior Erin Larsen and Otero on base. Davis singled to center field, recording an RBI, which allowed Larsen to score. Otero then scored after junior Rachel Marchuk grounded out to shortstop.
Seventh Inning: Quinnipiac secured the win by scoring seven runs in the last inning. Troyan and Jensen both hit singles to help the Bobcats secure the 11-2 win.
Highlights: Freshman Lauren King earned the win (2-0 on the season) after pitching six innings, allowing six hits and recording two strikeouts. Otero led the Bobcats going 2-3 with three runs and two RBIs. Drake went 1-3 with one run and three RBIs. The Bobcats scored 11 runs, which is the most so far this season, and allowed zero errors.
GAME FOUR vs BALL STATE
Second Inning: The Bobcats scored both runs in the second innings to take a 2-1 lead over the Cardinals. Troyan hit a single to right center field recording two RBIs and sending Drake and Otero home for the runs. Ball State would score the game-winning run in the eighth inning after forcing extra innings. Brundrett pitched seven innings (1-3 on the season) recording four strikeouts.
UP NEXT
The Bobcats will have two weeks off before playing in the Liberty Classic starting March 1 against Sacred Heart.
