Adams and van Winkel Each Net Second Goals of Season for Bobcats
HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac field hockey team battled back from two one-goal deficits Saturday afternoon but could not complete the comeback against the No. 19 Maine Black Bears in a 3-2 loss at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey Stadium.
Makayla Adams (Sweet Valley, Pennsylvania) and Elisa van Winkel (Heeze, Netherlands) each scored their second goals of the seasons for the Bobcats.

- (21:35 – Quinnipiac 0, Maine 1): Maine's Samantha Wagg scored her fourth goal of the season after the Black Bears were awarded a penalty stroke.
- (33:50 – Quinnipiac 1, Maine 1): The Bobcats tied up the game on Adams' second goal of the season with just over a minute to go in the first half. Brooke Whipkey (Charlotte, North Carolina) recorded the assist with a pass from the left side of the circle to Adams wide open above the penalty spot.
- (36:30 – Quinnipiac 1, Maine 2): Brianna Ricker put home her first goal of the season after collecting a loose ball in the circle before putting it home in the left side of the cage.
- (38:58 – Quinnipiac 2, Maine 2): van Winkel's second goal of the season tied the game, 2-2, early in the second half. Elisa Ruiz Martinez (Madrid, Spain) stopped the ball at the top of the circle off a penalty corner and worked the ball to van Winkel on the left side where she ripped the ball past Maine's Mia Borley.
- (57:52 – Quinnipiac 2, Maine 3): Libby Riedl netted her fourth goal of the season to put the Black Bears ahead for good. Ricker dribbled the ball down the end line after a sprint into the offensive third. She hit the ball to Riedl alone to the right of the penalty spot where she hit a reverse chip into the goal.
NOTES
- Quinnipiac scored two goals on Maine's goalkeeper Mia Borley, the reigning national defensive player of the week, for the most goals she's allowed in a game this season
- Adams scored her second goal of the season, and first at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey stadium
- van Winkel also scored her second goal of the season and first at home
- Whipkey recorded her first career assist for the Bobcats with the helper on Adams' late first half goal
- Elisa Ruiz Martinez recorded her first assist of the season just one year removed from tallying seven points
- Her sister, Ines Ruiz Martinez, tallied her second defensive save of the season shortly after Maine's third goal to keep the Bobcats within one
- A minute after her defensive save, Maine was awarded a second penalty stroke which was saved by Hannah Teicher (Bethesda, Maryland) was an incredible diving save to her right
- Teicher tied her career-high with six saves in Saturday's game and has made at least five saves in three of her four starts this season
