QU Baseball Drops First Game of UNC-Wilmington Series

WILMINGTON, North Carolina - The UNC Wilmington baseball team rode the strong pitching of starter Alex Royalty, who threw seven shutout innings, and had a big day offensively without the benefit of a long ball, as it captured a 19-0 win over Quinnipiac in the first game of a three-game series on Friday night at Brooks Field.

- Alex Royalty threw seven shutout innings for the Seahawks to get the win, allowing four hits, striking out eight and walking none. His team gave him all the offense he would need with three runs in the first inning and two in the second for a quick 5-0 lead.
- UNC Wilmington tallied its 19 runs without hitting a home run, managing four doubles and 18 singles for its 22 hits.
- The Seahawks picked up 10 runs in their final two at-bats, scoring seven times in the seventh and three times in the eighth.
- Quinnipiac had five players pick up hits on the day, including two doubles from junior designated hitter Liam Scafariello
- Junior catcher Anthony Cruz reached base his first two times up with a single and a hit by pitch.
- Junior outfielder Brian Moskey had a single to go 1-for-3, but slipped just under .400 for the season (.397) after reaching the plateau with a 4-for-4 effort on Wednesday at College of Charleston.
- Eight different Seahawks had multi-hit games, while No. 7 and No. 8 hitters Doug Angeli and Noah Liles were each 4-for-6.
- Quinnipiac came into the day with five wins in its last six games, and was 5-0 against CAA teams on the year (3-0 vs. William & Mary, 2-0 vs. College of Charleston)
