Casey Herzog Leads Bobcats to Win Over Lehigh, as QU Softball Splits on the Day

TAMPA, Fla. - Senior Casey Herzog went the distance in the circle, allowing four hits, and had a tie-breaking, two-out, two-run single in the top of the seventh as the Quinnipiac softball team came from behind to defeat Lehigh 4-2 in its first of two games on Wednesday afternoon. In the second game, Butler scored five times in the fifth to take a 5-2 win, giving the Bobcats a split on the day.

Quinnipiac heads back to Clearwater for the Michelle Smith Tournament, hosted by the University of South Florida, facing Army and Tennessee-Chattanooga in the first day of the tournament on Friday, before closing out with Buffalo and North Florida on Saturday and Saint Joseph's on Sunday. .

- Senior pitcher Casey Herzog supported her own cause with a two-run single in the top of the seventh to give her a complete-game pitching victory.
- After falling behind 2-0, the Bobcats were able to tie the score in the fifth inning on a bases-loaded two-run single from junior first baseman Keala Cordeiro.
- Cordeiro helped set the table in the seventh inning with a one-out single, which was followed by another single from junior third baseman Rebecca Drake. After both moved into scoring position on a single from freshman Brighid Douglas, Lehigh threw home to get the force at the plate for the second out of the inning.
- Herzog was able to break the tie with a clutch two-out, two-run single to give the Bobcats their first lead of the game, and then retired the side in order in the bottom half to finish off the win.
- Quinnipiac came out hitting, with three singles in the top of the first, but they were unable to score.
- Senior center fielder Keilani Finley was 3-for-4 on the day, while Herzog was 2-for-3 with two RBI.
- Quinnipiac had 10 hits to Lehigh's four, as Herzog allowed just one earned run on the day.
- In the second game, sophomore outfield Megan Dyson broke a scoreless deadlock with a two-run single in the fourth
- Butler scored five times in the fifth, taking a 3-2 lead on a squeeze play, and then adding a sacrifice fly and a passed ball for two insurance runs
