
Kaleigh Roberts, Jessica Lee Earn First-Place Finishes on Day Two of New England Championships

BOSTON, Mass. - Senior Kaleigh Roberts (pictured, left) took first place in the one-mile run and senior Jessica Lee (pictured, right) earned a first-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a school and meet-record 8.25 seconds to highlight the performance of the Quinnipiac women's track and field team on day two of the New England Championships, held at the Reggie Lewis Track and Field Center. The duo joined junior Carly Timpson (pictured, center), who finished as a co-champion in the high jump yesterday, to give the Bobcats three first-place finishes at the two-day event, while the 4x800 relay team of Roberts, Marlo Wehrer, Meghan Curtin, and Alyson Caron finished second and qualified for the ECAC Championships.

- Senior Jessica Lee (Montgomery, N.J.) shaved a full tenth of a second off her personal best (and school record) in the 60-meter hurdles, winning the finals in 8.25 seconds. She tied her previous best by finishing first in the prelims in 8.35 seconds.
- Lee's 8.25 gave her a narrow win over Cha'Mia Rothwell of Dartmouth, who crossed the line just .06 behind in 8.31 seconds and set a new meet record for the New England Championships.
- Kaleigh Roberts (Higganum, Conn.) won an extremely close race in the one-mile run, finishing in 4:52.65, winning by just .38 over Zoe Matherne of Holy Cross.and by .82 over third place Miranda Thompson of Boston College.
- Junior Carly Timpson's (Narragansett, R.I.) 1.74 meters in the high jump eclipsed her own school record of 1.70, set last year and matched earlier this season.
- The 4x800 relay team of junior Marlo Wehrer (Pequannock, N.J.), sophomore Meghan Curtin (Cohocton, N.Y.), senior Alyson Caron (Andover, N.J.) and senior Kaleigh Roberts (Higganum, Conn.) finished second overall in a field of 11 teams, qualifying for the ECAC Championships with a time of 9:08.67, which places them fourth in school history.
- Junior Mackenzie Merkel (Hillsdale, N.J.) shattered her personal best in the shot put to earn an 11th place finish with a distance of 12.71 meters. Her previous best was 12.19 meters, set earlier this year at the Great Dane Classic.
- Freshman Abby Frank (Penfield, N.Y.) matched her personal best in the 60-meter dash with a 7.99, duplicating her time from the Gotham Cup earlier this winter.
- Senior Christina Barbaro (Elk Township, N.J.) earned points in the 500-meter dash by qualifying for the finals with an eighth-place finish in Friday's prelims. She finished seventh in today's finals with a 1:17.58, trimming almost a full second off of yesterday's time.
- Sophomore Jillian DiGiacinto (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.) earned a personal-best in the 500-meter dash prelims with a 1:21.04, good for 18th place. She edged her previous best of 1:21.13, set at the Great Dane Classic in January.
- Sophomores Meghan Curtin (Cohocton, N.Y.) and Ahmetra Davies (Bay Shore, N.Y.) both trimmed over two seconds off their personal bests in the 800 meters, Curtin finished in 11th with a time of 2:17.02, passing her previous best of 2:19.21 at the Valentine Invitational last year. Davies, meanwhile, ran a 2:19.11, breaking her previous fastest time of 2:21.54 at this year's Gotham Cup.
- Fifth-year senior Alyson Caron (Andover, N.J.) clocked a personal best in the 1000 meters with a 3:02.06 to come in 14th place. Her previous best was 3:02.59, set last week at the Terrier Classic.
- Freshman Amanda Carlson (Lake Grove, N.Y.) trimmed 2:18 off her personal best in the mile, running a 5:20.37 to pass her previous best set last week at the Terrier Classic.
- Freshman Samantha Leal (Lincoln, R.I.) came in under 20 minutes in the 5000 for the first time in her young career, finishing in 19:25.48 to trim 1:10 off her previous fast time.
