QU Men's Tennis Celebrates Senior Day With 7-0 Win Over Siena

HAMDEN, Connecticut - The Quinnipiac men's tennis team celebrated its Senior Day with a 7-0 sweep over MAAC rival Siena on Sunday afternoon at the QU Outdoor Tennis Courts.
The win improves the Bobcats' record to 9-8 (4-1 MAAC), while Siena falls to 4-11 (2-2 MAAC). This win was also the fourth time this season where the Bobcats swept a conference opponent and the second time at home.
The team celebrated the career of senior Kei Ezaka (Ojai, California), who added two more wins to his program-record of career wins.
Patrick Cachapero (Loma Linda, California), Axel Stern (Tustin, California), Austin Yannone (Severna Park, Maryland), Jackson Koke (Calgary, Alberta) and Kyle Alper (Dix Hills, New York) all earned two wins on the day.
The day began with the No. 3 doubles match, where Cachapero and Koke teamed up to defeat Peter Galante and Jace Koretz, 6-1. Alper and Ezaka then teamed up in the No. 2 doubles match to defeat Cameron Kirkwood and Diego Lebron, 6-3, clinching the doubles point for the Bobcats. Quinnipiac completed the sweep after Stern and Yannone defeated Alessandro Saglia and Matt Bellino, 7-5. The win was the duo's 13th of the season, which is tops on the team.
With Quinnipiac 1-0, the matches moved to singles play, where Cachapero defeated Saglia in straight set, 6-1 and 6-1 in the No. 2 singles match. Ezaka followed with a win over Kirkwood in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-3. The win was Ezaka's 140th of his career, which is a program-record.
Yannone then took the court in the No. 5 singles match against Koretz, where Yannone won in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-3. Koke followed with a win over Alexandros Giannakitisidis in the No. 6 match, sweeping him 6-3 and 6-2. Alper followed with a sweep over Bellino, 6-3 and 6-1. Stern closed the day with a sweep over Geovanny Mendoza in straight sets, 7-5 and 6-2 to secure the 7-0 sweep.
Quinnipiac will be back in action on Friday, April 14, when the Bobcats play host to Bryant at the QU Outdoor Tennis Courts at 2:30 p.m.
